Day 57: Waiting Room / Lobby 2

Anise wasn't sure what to think when she was escorted to the waiting room. It was disturbing enough that Landel mixed up her family - and Ion! - in his stupid schemes, but the military was going to do it too? While it looked like they were pretending to follow the Head Doctor's schedule, she still felt uneasy, like they might do something unexpected and horrible to her loved ones.

Well, more horrible than what was already done to them, that was...

Despite that uneasiness, though, Anise really wanted to see Ion or her parents, even if they'd still be brainwashed. After getting no visitors the previous week, she was worried about how they were doing. Even if it hurt to hear them say all those crazy things, it meant a lot just to see their faces.

She wished they would at least tell her who was coming beforehand, so she didn't have to get all anxious while wondering... Anise didn't even have Tokunaga to comfort herself right now. All she could do was clench and tug at the gray fabric at her knees as she sat waiting in a chair, her feet dangling just above the floor.

Something inside broke, and Mike's breath caught. Raph was leaving. Even if everything was hopeless, Raph was leaving. Mike saw the schedule. Who knew when Raph would be back.

This guy was probably an enemy, a plant, but there was a pain in Mike's chest that tightened when Raph-that-wasn't-Raph started walking away from him. He closed his eyes. No. No, he had to ignore Raph. It was best that Raph left. They couldn't get to him if his brother was gone.

Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out. Breath in--

It was weak of him. Weak and pathetic, as his willpower broke down. But his grip was strong when he reached out and grabbed Raph's wrist, all without opening his eyes.

"Wait," Mike rasped, his already rough voice catching in his throat. "Stay."

Mike was supposed to be dead. There were no more chances. But if there was any way this was really Raph, brainwashed or else, it... It could be his last chance to be with one of his brothers. And that was something Mike couldn't give up.

Fuck.

Roy stopped, single-eyed gaze dropping to the hand on his wrist. There was a sort of desperation in his brother's voice that spoke of a loneliness they'd all been feeling a little; while it wasn't that they couldn't stand to be separated as a family, like in those early years when they'd all relied on each other, it was different when there wasn't even much of a chance to visit at all.

He still felt stupid and awkward in a place like this, with the nurses all around the place making sure nothing got too out of hand and him with no idea what to really do or say, but if Mike wanted him to stay a little longer, then Roy couldn't simply shake him off like that didn't mean anything. Hell, having his brother want him around still had to mean something good, right?

Nodding slowly, he moved back to drop down heavily into the chair again.

"Guess I can stay a little longer. So..." He searched for something to talk about, eventually settling on; "What's it like in here? You ain't too bored or anythin', are ya?"
