Night 56: Main Hallway, 1-West

[From here.]

He had reached the meeting point in less than a few minutes and there was still not another patient to be seen. Castiel paused, standing near the wall as he moved his flashlight up and down the corridor. There was nothing, not the sound of a shadow slipping through the dark; not the whisper of something less than human.

The only sound was the static that periodically came from his radio. He couldn't seem to get it to let up, and he wondered if it was reacting to him or if he'd been given a faulty one.

He would have preferred the former option, but he had been knocked down too many notches when it came to the loss of his abilities, his divinity, the very things that made him him.

Castiel let out a breath that had been caught in his chest and then lowered his flashlight. He wondered how long this whole process would take, but he supposed that all depended on how well he did as a student. He fashioned himself a fast learner, but he had never been able to grasp things like popular culture.

He imagined he would do a bit better with lockpicking, though. Leaning himself against the wall, Castiel stood there quietly, waiting for Orihara to show himself.

Aidou supposed he should have been grateful the “everyone” who constituted the group had managed to come together and weren’t wandering the halls, or being attacked by monsters, or being experimented on, but it was a thin gratitude at best. He looked over the three assembled. Sai and Sakura he already knew of, linked to Sasuke as they were, but the third one…

How the hell did that guy fit in?

His appearance was an offence from across a cafeteria, but in close proximity the vampire had to fight back a groan. He didn’t think he’d ever warm up to the abrupt changes in company he was keeping while in Landel’s, or the prospects of untried blood magic.

But if other groups besides his own had succeeded in getting the basement’s stupid little baubles, surely he only had to worry about the latter?

… Ugh.

From behind Sasuke’s shoulder, he similarly skipped a greeting and said, “Let me guess: everyone has to touch beforehand, correct? There’s only one lady in this group. If we must, I want to hold on to her.” After being patted down by a male gorilla in military attire, he could at least make this terrible “transportation” as easy as possible.

Good, it sounded like they hadn't waited long. Sakura nodded once to show she understood and was about to open her mouth to explain that yes, of course Sasuke-kun would be coming, but it seemed it wasn't necessary. He and another boy had only just arrived, a few steps behind her. It was that Aidou person, wasn't it. She greeted him with a smile and just a twinge of jealousy; wasn't this the same person who'd given Sasuke that mark? Seriously, did Sasuke have a thing for blondes or something? Maybe she should've used her money to get herself a bottle of bleach instead.

She'd really only seen the guy from a distance and... okay he was pretty freaking hot. Not as hot as Sasuke of course, but he definitely had a good shot in the running. Sakura chose to ignore the the words he chose; Sasuke was usually just as abrupt and to-the-point, but the important part was, he wanted to hold her hand. In front of Sasuke? Was she just a pawn to make his lover jealous? Or perhaps an interesting new addition to their-

"It doesn't really matter," she replied, offering her hand to the blonde. From a purely strategic standpoint, of course it didn't matter. Even if she would rather hold Sasuke's hand. While she waited for him to grasp it, she made a subtle point of keeping her other hand as close to Sasuke's as she could, just in case she could have the best of both worlds.

"I'm ready. They returned all my missing weapons and supplies. Seems like it's a good night for this."

Sai nodded his greeting to everyone, though Aidou received a glance perhaps not so friendly as the others. There was no jealously involved in this instance, simply the memory of an uncomfortable conversation from weeks prior. That was all the blond would get for now by way of hello.

As a grasping of hands appeared to be necessary for whatever method of transportation Sasuke was using (one that involved the rings from before, presumably), the ninja didn't hesitate to grab Brook's and pull him toward the others. He took Sasuke's other hand in his free one, the one Sakura wasn't making obvious moves toward. This wasn't to avoid holding Aidou's hand, of course. That would be making an unnecessary preference.

Asked and answered. Brook looked as Sasuke and someone he'd not met before joined their group, explaining that all that would be there were. Though he might not have known the young blond haired boy, he had always followed the concept of "the more the merrier". So then, they were all there and ready to head for the basement, but there was one thing Brook wasn't quite understanding of the whole thing.

"Transport, you said?" he asked, only to suddenly get grabbed and pulled near to the rest by none other than Sai. "Eh? H-hold on a minute...!"

For all that Aidou had unexpectedly become one of Sasuke's more dependable allies in the Institute, there were times that he was forcibly reminded that he'd met the vampire while Aidou had been chowing down on cake in the middle of the night, in a room that had turned out to be infested with lizards made of fire. Now was one of those times, when Aidou's 'demanding' came just short of 'whining', and Sasuke had to resist the urge to roll his eyes at the pointless request.

Fortunately, Sakura seemed sensible enough to not make an issue out of it, and in the next moment someone whose hand size meant it had to be Sai grabbed onto Sasuke. The startled words from Brook made it clear that he was the only one who didn't really know about either ring or their plans for the night.

"We're using a shortcut to save time," he explained as briefly as possible for Brook's benefit, and held up the hand with the ring. Unfortunately -- for Sakura at least -- Sasuke needed that hand free in order to break the ring against the wall, which meant that she was left holding only Aidou's hand as Sasuke braced for the unpleasant sensation of travel and smashed the jewel once more.
