Night 71: Patient Library
[from here]
Shortly after Kratos closed the library door, the intercom came on abruptly. For some strange reason, though, the voice that came through was not Landel's, and it was soon joined by several others who also were not Landel. The rebels? How had they accidentally hijacked the intercom? And more importantly, where were they broadcasting from and what were they doing? Those questions, though, had to be saved for later: their goal tonight was very clear; they had their own mysterious lead to decipher.
He began to move again once the broadcast turned off, heading straight for where they'd found the switch the previous night. "Check the right side of the center aisle," Kratos said as he passed Lloyd. "We're looking for the Oxford Book of English Verse."

Adrenaline rush from the fight fading, Scar burst into the library as he tried to pay attention to what was going on on the speakers. It was definitely being broadcast throughout the institute... Voices he did not know. The so-called rebels?
He made sure to keep the door held open wide, hoping the Elrics were right on his heels.

Once inside, he listened to the unusual broadcast as well, frowning. Obviously the intruders spoken of before, but what were they doing? He could only hope whatever it was would give the doctors a hell of a headache.

"Even if we go back out there, you aren't to try to fight her." It had been a long time since he had turned on the Elrics in true anger.
"What the hell were you thinking?" he snapped, "She could have easily killed you with those attacks. If we go back out there, we run. Just like we should have the first time!"

"She could have killed the both of you! You cannot afford to be so reckless, not in a place where we are almost completely powerless and our enemies possess unworldly abilities that we have never even laid eyes on! We can fight, but you cannot waste your lives so foolishly!"
Scar's fists were tightly curled. He was angry because he was scared. People lost their lives in the blink of an eye here, and if that happened to the Elric brothers, he would never have been able to forgive himself.

The frustration he felt at being trapped in this place still bubbled under the surface, needing an outlet.

[There will be no further monster posts, but the book that triggers the secret stairwell is covered in the hallucinogen it excretes, and it will affect anyone who touches it.]

He intended to check if there was a relatively obvious way to the third floor to start with, following that up with a more in-depth search after.

"I'm not even certain what exactly there is that we're looking for..." He began looking over the limited shelves with his light.

"Start with the walls. There are rooms above here, so there will not be anything coming directly out of the center of the ceiling. If anything, it will most likely be toward the back." Closer to the edge of the building itself. He tried to remember if he had seen any sign of a staircase from the outside, but the courtyard wasn't a good enough vantage point to the Institute's east-facing facade to have seen anything.

Of course, his tighter grip on the book in reaction only meant that more of the hallucinogenic slime seeped into his skin, though it hadn't quite taken effect just yet.

He played the light over the immediate area as he looked for what might have been revealed by Al pulling on the book.

"Hold on-" Scar's light caught a slight sheen on the books surrounding the empty space where the dictionary now in Al's hands once sat. "Alphonse, is something on that book?"

Scar lifted his light, enough to illuminate Alphonse without blinding him.
"What feels wrong?" Not much help, but what else could he do?

His eyes went wide then, looking down the hallway. "Mom...? MOM!" He starts to make a dash down the hall--guys, it might be a good idea to stop him.

Then he grabbed for Al's arm. "She's not real, Al. What you're seeing isn't there."
