Spotting the door to the second block, Al quickly went over and opened the door. After shining the light both ways down the corridor to make sure he wasn't being followed, he went in.
Well, the north hall looked quiet enough. Anise hoped it would be just as quiet outside. Her pace slowed as she neared the doors at the end of the hall, listening for anything that might hint at what was out there.
When she was close to the door, she stopped, and sent a frown up at Guy. “It’s still raining,” she groaned. There was no mistaking the pitter-pattering sounds coming from outside. It didn’t sound nearly as bad as it was earlier that day, but now the wall was going to be all slippery, and her hair was going to get wet. This sucked.
It turned out that his hopes for some improved weather had been misplaced. Guy paused in front of the door, a few steps behind Anise, and let out a sigh. He couldn't necessarily blame Anise if she didn't want to trudge out into the rain, seeing how she'd been sick for almost a week prior to this.
"Well, if you don't want to head out into it, we can always go around the other way," he said with a small shrug of one shoulder. Guy realized that would lead to wasting more time, but it wasn't like they'd have to backtrack that far -- and if it meant that Anise would be a little more comfortable, then he was willing.
It was nice of Guy to offer to turn back, and it was just like him to be willing to take the long route just to make her feel better. But that didn’t seem entirely fair to Guy. Anise paused for a moment to think, then pushed the door open, just to get a clear look at the weather. Was it bad enough to justify a big detour like that…?
She stood there, staring at the raindrops plopping in the scattered puddles in the field, and soon dropped her head in defeat. “I guess we already came this far…” she muttered. Anise wasn’t happy about going out in the rain, but it wasn’t nearly heavy enough to justify making Guy walk her all the way around the other side of the institute. “Let’s just hurry over there real quick.”
It looked like it wasn't raining that hard after all, but there was no denying that if they headed out there, they were going to get wet. Then again, even if they went around the other way, they'd still get a little wet as they moved across the greenhouse yard.
Thankfully, it looked like Anise was going to endure it instead of making them take a detour. Guy felt bad for her, since she did look pretty miserable about it, so he sent her an encouraging smile. "It'll be fine. We'll make it fast." Both of them were used to this whole routine, so he was pretty sure they could climb the walls without much trouble. Even if Anise was on the shorter side and Guy was incapable of boosting her, they'd work this out. He stepped out onto the field, holding the door for Anise so she could follow after him.
