Night 66: M11-M20 Hallway
[M13]
When the doors unlocked throughout the hallways, Facilier was more than ready to begin his exploration of the institute once Rock Lee arrived as planned. However, he wasn't so eagerly prepared for what could happen with his roommate Hakkai...
The Bokor gathered his things in silence so tense that it nearly solidified the air surrounding him. He constantly kept his eye fixated on his roommate, ever watching for any change emerging from the corner of his suspicious vision. Meanwhile, Facilier's Shadow remained inconspicuously natural, yet he could feel its energy tingling as it was ready to leap into action at the slightest sign of danger towards its master.
Thoughts of killing off his roommate now before anything happened did cross Facilier's mind -- if not dozens of times by now! But he dared not dirty his hands unless it was absolutely necessary. It didn't help that Rock Lee was sure to show up any moment now either; Facilier couldn't trust the boy to remain silent about finding Hakkai's untransformed dead body in his room. He would just have to deal with this unbearable tension until he could exit to the hallway or fight once things became dire.
For now, Facilier took out his costume cane from his closet and leaned it against his desk close to where he rested his hand. Keeping Hakkai within his sight, Facilier sat down to eat the rest of his dinner, his finger constantly twitching towards the handle of his cane as he waited.

The unnerved witch doctor had no time to ponder further over this, as he was surprised by Hakkai's sudden display of superhuman speed--
"Ah--!" Quick as a flash of light, the vines that sprouted forth from Hakkai instantly wrapped themselves around Facilier's ankles and up to his knees. This attack was instantly countered by the Bokor's shadow, which was just as speedy as darkness snuffing out a candle. It swiftly threw the chair at the possessed Hakkai with the same furious strength as its master, intending to break the furniture over the attacker's head and knock him over.

The chair caught him by surprise - an attack he'd never seen before, had not anticipated. His arms flew up to protect his face as the chair slammed into him, sending him stumbling backwards. He hit the bedframe, and only barely managed to keep his balance - but as his concentration broke, the grip of his vines loosened as well.

"N-NO!" The panicking Bokor threw his cane back and hitched its curved end around the leg of his desk as an anchor against Hakkai's clutches. He wasn't going to get dragged to his death again if he could help it!
Just then the chair hit its mark and sent the monstrous Hakkai falling back onto his bed. Facilier felt the possessive vines loosen their hold on his legs and he wasted no time to pull himself up by his cane and reach his hand out to rip away at the leafy tendrils. Meanwhile, Facilier's dark doppelganger flew in for a second attack, stretching out its curved arm to throw a punch at the shadow of Hakkai's head.

Shadows! The transformed Hakkai's vines were of the shadow realm! They were so swift and unexpected that Facilier was denied the chance to observe them properly at first. This new form of Hakkai was surely a darker relative of an earthen spirit! If things hadn't been so dire, Facilier would have been fascinated by this exotic display of magic but instead he was in danger of it and had to escape it! But how...?
It was then that Facilier realized that his Shadow could deal with these blackened vines far better than he could, they must have shared the same realm after all! Yet just as he was about to command his darker counterpart into action, he spotted another vine shooting out from the agitated Hakkai. This time Facilier could see it trailing down the floor like the rapid spread of nightfall. Unable to fight back the instinctual urge to escape the attack, he found himself flinching away to dodge the vine. Despite Facilier's movement, the new vine easily joined the first two and trailed its way up past his torso. All three shadows then tightened their grips and forcefully pinned the Bokor on the spot, rendering escape nearly impossible.
"Hakkai, you FIEND!" Facilier cried, his hands digging into the floor as he fought to stay upright and keep a distance from his dangerous roommate. "You're messing with the wrong man with these shadows of yours! You'll regret this!" And as he spoke, he gestured to his doppelganger to help him. The Shadow obeyed and flew across the walls towards its master, staying partially part of the ceiling and above the door before reaching its long hands towards the offending vines.

Lee heard a cry just as he turned the corner to go down the hall. There was also the sound of a thud, a crash, and Lee felt a wave of adrenaline pulse through his blood, speeding him along. He didn't have to travel far to get to the door, and once he had the knob in his hand he yanked it open. The sight that met his eyes could not have been any stranger but the shinobi did not let that buffer him for more than a second.
Falling into years of training, Lee assessed the situation to determine an action. The roommate of Dr. Facilier seemed to be be the one attacking using a peculiar jutsu. There were shadows in play, though Lee hardly understood the logistics of shadow control jutsu like a Nara might have. Ill-prepared but reckless as ever Lee attacked in the way only a Green Beast might have. He charged in head-first with only one objective; to get Facilier free.
The ninja took a few rushing steps forward, then jumped and twisted in the air, aiming a kick towards Hakkai's head. Perhaps there was some sort of misunderstanding here, but that didn't much matter. He needed to disable the one he perceived as the attacker, and maybe if he drew attention away from Facilier than the doctor could escape! Lee gave a mighty shout like thunder might roll before a sudden downpour. "Leaf Whirlwind!"
With his right arm still in a sling, Lee was likely going to have some issues in a fully fight, but only if his legs ever became compromised. With those free, however, he wasn't going to worry about making attacks land. He was more proficient using his legs and feet in battle than his hands, after all, but this wasn't just about him. He needed to protect Facilier and protecting others had always been a little daunting for him. He could not lose in a fight protecting someone. Failure was not an option when lives were on the line.
[Hope this works, guys! o/]

He was ill-prepared for another attacker, but at least this one announced himself as he barged into the room, and Hakkai's reflexes were inhumanly quick. The kick caught his shoulder as he shifted, and he let himself be moved with it, rather than fighting the push. He could see the boy was injured - a weakness he could exploit. As he shifted from the kick, one clawed hand shot out, reaching for the injured arm.

Yet those feelings of impending doom were suddenly blown away by the boisterous arrival of Rock Lee and his whirlwind kick! Surprised and admittedly rather awed, Facilier watched the boy take on Hakkai with wide eyes. Facilier could certainly see the confidence Lee had spoke of when they first met! He had found a very good minion (for once) and it was sure paying off!
Meanwhile the Shadow caught the two vines wrapped around Facilier's legs and ripped them apart with its spindly hands. Free from the supernatural plants, Facilier scrambled up to his feet and backed off into his corner of the room, grinning to himself with total relief at Lee's timely arrival.
Yet his smile was cut short by the sensation of something tugging at his arm. He glanced down to find nothing wrapped around his limb -- then his focus shot up to his Shadow to find that the third vine that had retreated was now tangling itself around his dark partner! Facilier cursed under his breath at the sight. As a magical entity reflecting Facilier's soul, the Shadow was susceptible to only a few things: fire and supernatural forces on the same plane as it was. What affected his Shadow affected Facilier, and feeling this vicious tug upon both himself and his doppelganger brought more traumatic memories of the Loa's anger. As long as his Shadow was tied down, he wasn't going anywhere.
Cursing again, Facilier anchored himself behind his desk as his Shadow above struggled with the vine. He was leaving the main fight up to Lee and was more than obliged to give him as much room as possible. "Watch it Lee! That boy's become a monster!" he warned the shinobi, "Don't let his shadows get a hold of you!"
no subject
"Roger!" Lee said in acknowledgement of Facilier's warning, but he didn't have the shadows to worry about now. For Lee, the claws were the greater threat. Lee's cast was caught and yanked back with a force that Lee wouldn't have expected from such a thin form, but musculature could be deceiving.
The way Hakkai took the blow before was a smart tactic and, true to ninja nature, Lee decided to follow along the same route. Letting himself be drawn in by the claw, the shinobi twisted and threw up his leg again, defying ordinary limits of flexibility. His leg nearly arced a full 180 degrees as he aimed for Hakkai's temple again. He regretted that he hadn't swapped his slippers for his shinobi sandals when he had the chance back in his room.
He would leave the shadow workings to the doctor. He seemed to have a handle on breaking free, at least. Lee just needed to keep their physical opponent busy for now.

His free hand came up, chi gathering in his palm. Not enough to bring the ceiling down on them - the rage and hatred were not so overwhelming that he had forgotten that much. But this close, he didn't need that much power. He sent the energy straight at the boy's chest, releasing his grip on his arm as he did so.
His shadow-vines, though - they were meeting resistance. That threat was a stronger one - human, still, he could smell that much - but powerful. He could break the vines, which nobody had ever done before. He gritted his teeth and refocused his efforts on trapping the other man.

Meanwhile, the vine tying itself around Facilier's Shadow was getting more vicious, extending and tightening its clutches upon the doppelganger. Facilier could feel the same increasing pressure and he snapped at the struggling Shadow above. "Don't just sit there trying to untie them knots! You're a shadow! Just slither out!"
The Shadow halted in its fight and nodded to its master with an inspired grin, as though surprised it hadn't thought of that sooner. As malleable as clay, it changed from a shadow of Facilier to one of a snake, with its trademark top hat and all. With the speed of a lunging cobra, it coiled its thin body into a spring then shot itself out of the vine's tangles. Free to attack, the snake-shaped entity flew across the ceiling towards Hakkai, its fanged mouth wide open for a good bite at the shadow of his arm. The Shadow may not have been poisonous, but its bite could still pack a punch!

Shaking himself, trying to get a grip on the situation once again, Lee knew there would be no helping it. Chakra was needed in order to beat this foe. Focusing and moving some of his power to his legs and feet, Lee ran towards Hakkai again in another frontal assault. This time, however, he wasn't quite so straight-forward. Waiting until the last minute, the shinobi somersaulted into the air and brought his heel down towards Hakkai's scalp. Powered by chakra, he was a bit speedier, and his blow would fall heavier than any of those before.

As the boy ran at Hakkai this time, he could see that he was faster, now - not as fast as a youkai, but for a human to show that power was.. intriguing. He shifted stance slightly, gathering more chi - but he hadn't anticipated that last-second acrobatics - too late to shift the direction of the blast. It went wild, across the room, and the blow blacked his vision for a few moments.
Then pain blossomed in his arm, and he looked for the source instinctively. Blood, but no enemy. Which meant... another glance at the shadows showed a snake, poised over his arm.
[OOC: Feel free to use pointy objects on him - his endurance is kind of insane and he can survive a fair bit of blood loss]

Seeing Lee fly in for a second attack while his Shadow snake hungrily chewed away on Hakkai's arm, Facilier took the opportunity to flee his hiding spot beneath the desk. He warily stumbled to his feet only to be knocked back by an unseen burst of energy. Yelping, the Bokor's gangly arms and legs flailed in the air before his back crashed into his open closet. Sparks lit up beneath Facilier's eyelids as he felt his head bang against his box of supplies. A second later, there was the sound of glass shattering beside him and Facilier forced his eyes open to find one of the jars he looted to be in pieces beside him.
Damnit! Those containers for his potions weren't easy to come by here! That Hakkai was going to pay for that! If only he had a decent weapon to end this crazed battle once and for all--
--The broken glass shards! A few of them were large and sharp enough to be used as crude knives! Facilier snatched up two hand-sized pieces and scrambled up to his feet. "Lee!" he called to the shinobi, "Use these!" He then tossed the sharp shards towards the boy, hoping that his ninja reflexes would not fail him.

The power blast that Lee's kick knocked off target would have been devastating had it hit him full on. Lee needed something new; just kicks wouldn't be enough. Perhaps the Gates...
"Lee! Use these!"
The yell caught the shinobi's attention and he turned just in time to see shards of glass leave the doctor's hand. Snatching them out of the air with his left hand, he managed to get a grip on them but also felt the glass bite into the palm of his hand. Lee twisted and lunged for the slender man's abdomen with the blade of glass.

The sudden shock of pain that overwhelmed his senses and blurred his vision for a moment told him he had miscalculated. He let out a grunt of pain, and reached down to wrestle with the boy for whatever had stabbed him just below the ribs.

The Bokor cringed from the attack going on above but remained tucked away inside his closet. All his focus was narrowed down on Lee's attack and he nearly gave out a whoop of triumph when the shinobi successfully stabbed Hakkai with the glass shards. "Yes, Lee!" Facilier vindictively thought to himself, his hands balled up into fists as he watched the bloody scene unfold before him. "Kill him! Do the dirty work for me! KILL HIM!"
no subject
"Oi!" Lee cried out loudly, trying to get the attention of his opponent. Whether he received it or not was immaterial, but it was worth a shot.
Not having time to wait to be sure he got the reaction he wanted, Lee reared back and smashed his forehead forward, trying to headbutt Hakkai's face. He had always been told he was head-strong and hard-headed. Time to put those insults to the ultimate test.
[ooc: Feel free to poke me if you need me to change anything o/]

He hissed, a weird, feral sound, and grabbed the shard with the full force of his grip, shattering it. If he couldn't free it, the boy wouldn't have it as a weapon either. The vines, responding to his shift in temperament, started lashing out more aggressively - but they weren't dodging as well, either.
[OOC: Feel free to break more than just his nose - the pain might be enough to push him unconscious at this point]

"LEE! Take Hakkai out NOW before he goes completely berserk!" Facilier shouted, "He could kill us all if we don't stop him!"
While Facilier called out his warning, his Shadow had become swallowed up by the mass of twitching weeds. Almost every part of its snake body had been tangled and knotted up, rendering both it and Facilier painfully curled in on themselves and unable to move. For a moment it seemed the Shadow had lost the fight against the enraged vines, but it had another trick up its sleeves (or in this case scales). The serpentine Shadow curled up once more into a quivering ball -- then exploded back into its human form! The sudden growth and addition of limbs proved to be too much for most of the vines, snapping and tearing them apart in the Shadow's flourishing transformation.

Lee couldn't have that. As a fighter it was his duty to protect everyone else, even with his injuries. He couldn't use his free hand now, but he wasn't out of ammo yet! Feeding another chakra burst into his legs, Lee jumped and slammed both feet into Hakkai's chest. His goal was to land double damage with both the assault on Hakkai's ribs and possibly throwing him back to smash his head against the wall.
The power from the blow also threw Lee across the room where he slammed into the wall again, crying out when he heard and felt his shoulder crack. Pain throbbed through his head and back, intense and aching.
no subject
It was enough of a distraction that he didn't have time to try and turn the kick to his advantage. He could feel ribs crack under the force of the blow, and it sent him flying up against the wall, cracking his head, hard. His vision went black with the blow - and then consciousness went with it. He slumped to the floor, his own blood soaking through his clothes.
no subject
"No, no, NO!" Facilier gave out a strained gasp of horror as he watched Lee collapse to the floor after smashing into the wall a second time. He gripped into his hair and shook his head at the pitiful sight before rushing in to the fallen shinobi. "Merde!" His little toy solider couldn't be broken already! He still needed his fighting prowess if he was going survive and finish off his deal with Landel! He was too good to be done now!
Fitting his top hat back on, Facilier glared over his shoulder at Hakkai's prone form, his violet eyes scanning for any signs of life. Hakkai had to be dead from all that damage! Nothing should survive all that kicking and stabbing and ripping and tearing! And if he was somehow still alive, all that blood loss was sure to finish him off! Still, the Bokor could barely fight the anxious urge to make sure that the job had been done. He took a step towards Hakkai, but a groan from Lee caused Facilier to pause. He could either risk getting them killed by a still-living Hakkai or get out now and make sure that his minion survived to help him for more nights to come. To Facilier's business-orientated mind, the latter option was the most beneficial to his success.
Shooting one last grimace at Hakkai, Facilier gathered his cane and flashlight before turning around to help Lee. "C'mon boy! We need to get outta here!" Facilier carefully helped Lee up to his feet while his dark doppelganger gently supported the boy up by his shadow. Wasting no more time in the bloody room, the Bokor and his Shadow walked Lee out into the hallway, leaving Hakkai behind.
no subject
Facilier's call and a hand on his arm, pulling, reawakened Lee's shinobi instincts and he scrambled to his feet. Still a little out of it, Lee stumbled along with the person pulling him. Persons. There was someone else helping him but he couldn't see them, just feel a second pair of hands supporting him on one side. Very strange.... Yes, he must definitely have a concussion.
Lee at least had the presence of mind to knock the flashlight he had left in the doorway with his foot out into the hall so he wouldn't leave it. Or perhaps his foot just found it on accident. He wasn't really sure anymore, to be quite honest.

The room was a disaster. Gren could tell that before he even turned on the flashlight. He had no idea what had happened--were these rooms no longer safe at all?--and only after a second sweep with his flashlight did he notice the slumped figure in the midst of it all.
"Hakkai?" There was blood... and that overrode any sense of caution he might have otherwise had, moving to the man's side, setting the knife down on the floor as he attempted to determine the extent of the man's injuries.
