Day 66: Intercom, Dinner
As the sun began to inch closer to the horizon, dark clouds gathered overhead. Even so, the Head Doctor didn't let that damper his enthusiasm.
"Good evening, everyone! I hope you've all had an enjoyable day, particularly our newcomers. Here at Landel's Institute, we're eager to welcome you into our big, warm family, so make yourselves right at home!
"For dinner, we're serving teriyaki & tempura, with our usual assortment drinks, including water, milk, and several kinds of juices. Enjoy your meals!"
As the nurses escorted patients to their assigned rooms, thunder rumbled in the distance, and the sound of rain tapping against the outside of the building echoed through the halls. Some of the staff would comment about the sudden change in weather, but no one let it interfere with their duties.

Riley studied the man for a good minute before he remembered that staring was rude. "Oh, hi." He hesitated, spearing a piece of teriyaki chicken with his fork. "I guess we're supposed to be roommates, huh? Don't take this the wrong way, but... you're not weird, are you?"
It was a ridiculous question to ask in a mental hospital, but Riley wasn't sure what, exactly, made it ridiculous right now - the obvious fact of normal being, well, normal; or that everyone here seemed to be weird in some way, shape, or form, and asking about it was sort of self-defeating.

He turned around a little from where he sat at, continuing the conversation. "Excuse me, let me introduce myself." If this wasn't his roommate, might as well. "My name is Yuri Petrov. If you are occupying this room with me, I'd like to discuss a few things." Mostly establishing ground rules. Like no touching each others belongings. It wouldn't hurt to be careful after all and Yuri had no idea what this guy might do. He did look a little scruffy after all.

Huh. Yuri Petrov. Another Japanese name. That was odd. "Riley Poole," he returned after he'd finished his current mouthful. "But, uh... just call me Riley." Not Poole-san, and not any of the other colorful nicknames he'd been given over the years. Actually, wasn't there something about a Japanese person's last name being their first? Riley made a mental note to look that up at some point.
"Discuss?" he asked, immediately wary. "Like what?"

"I want to establish a form of boundaries. You are not to touch my belongings including anything on my desk or bed without permission. In return I will offer the same respect to your properties." It seemed so simple and common sense, but you never know. So Yuri wanted to get this established above anything else.
