Night 65: Walk-in Refrigerator

Ilia led them into the freezing room and did her best to do a quick scan with he flashlight. The beam bounced off the items stocked on the shelves, but nothing so dangerous as a cat's eyes flashed back at her. Safe again, for now.

He followed her into the walk-in refrigerator, still finding it a rather strange location for an entrance to the basement. The room was as empty as the ones before, however.

Ilia was tempted to grab some more juice while she was in the fridge, but tonight was not the night to be thinking of stocking up for the bar. She could do that some other time.
The proper tile was easy enough to locate. She lifted it and shoved it to the side, then started down the ladder without waiting for any nasties to show up.

A careful look with his flashlight revealed nothing more menacing than stacks of eggs and frozen vegetables.
"It looks clear," he called back behind him in a carefully pitched whisper.

Nothing he could do about it, really, and he had only brought it upon himself. He put the concern aside, concentrating on more important things. Like the fact that the path into the basement was, in fact, still there. Someone had even been kind enough to leave it uncovered for them.
Whether that was a good or bad thing, he didn't know.
He stared down into the darkness, listening for any other signs of life.
"Well, someone left the door open for us. Should we take the invitation?"

"Well, it's what we came for, isn't it?" The question was mostly rhetorical, and he slipped down into the whole in the floor, and headed down the stairs it concealed.
