NIght 50: West Wing, North Hall 1-B
[from here]
There was no one here yet. And wasn't that strange? If she remembered correctly, there was a male patient block here. Even if it was away from the others, it should still be fairly well occupied. Were they all just staying in for the night? It was also odd that no one from the female block had come up this way yet either. Either it was just too early, or something had happened in her absence that kept others from coming this way unless they had a larger group with them (or not at all).
Callisto stopped to shine her light down into the adjacent hall, seeing if she could pick out anyone heading out of their room. She thought she heard the sounds of people moving about on the other side of the wall, so it couldn't be completely empty. Was there any point in waiting around? She didn't need someone to accompany her, and it had only slowed her up in the past anyway.
She would wait a bit, perhaps, if only to sate her own curiosity before moving on.

"I was thinking softball, actually," Claire responded with a kind of begrudging, grim annoyance. She knew better than to think Elle would leave it at that, but she could at least pretend. Besides, it had been a while since she'd actually felt in control of a situation, and somehow, Elle was helping that.
That was weird to think about.

But the more she dwelled on it, the more it bothered her. There was no way in hell Claire was dragging them out to the rec field in the middle of the night to play softball. That much, she was sure of. So what was the secret? What was Pom-Pom getting at? Just thinking about it annoyed Elle beyond belief. Secrets had been a constant in her life, and at this point, they were getting old.
This manifested itself in a frustrated sigh. "What is your damage, anyway?"
no subject
"My damage," she made sure to emphasize the word spitefully, getting in her face, "is that, in case you didn't notice? We're stuck in some creepy asylum. So, maybe you're comfortable with everyone around you thinking you're crazy, but I'm not. I'd actually like to get out."
So, in some ways, it was probably just a little unfair to take out all of her pent up rage on Elle when it was quickly becoming obvious that the girl had no idea what was going on. But, Elle had never been fair to her -- why did she deserve the courtesy if she wasn't willing to extend it to other people? She didn't. If she realized how hardened this proved her to be, Claire made no indication of it.
There were some things you just needed to do in order to be mentally and emotionally prepared for dealing with this place, and it wasn't exactly the conducive kind of psyche to dealing with Elle Bishop. Or Sylar. Or both at once.
She really should have taken Peter up on his offer to stick around her through the night.

"I just wanted to know how going out in some field is going to help!" she got in Claire's face back, like two girls in a movie about a school in the ghetto about to get into a fight. Elle kind of felt like getting into a fight. Powers aside, she was pretty sure she could take Claire. The only real advantage the other had was her flashlight.

"Not everyone here is going to be as nice as I'm being," Sylar's face was as present in her mind now as it had been during King Kong and she was certain for a moment that she saw him in the shadows past Elle's head. But, as soon as her gaze flickered over, it was gone, and she reaffixed her stare on Elle. "And it's not even the people you should be most worried about. There are a lot of things that come out at night that aren't here during the day. A lot of dangerous things."
Another pause, this time accompanied by her dragging the back of her flashlight hand over her forehead to wipe an anxious sweat away -- one that she didn't notice had started, but was probably caused by all her paranoia.
"Out on the rec field, there's a shed with all kinds of sports equipment. They should have baseball bats kept there."
no subject
She didn't bother telling Claire she already knew about the dangerous things. Instead, she just let out an exasperated sigh. "Why didn't you say that in the first place?" Dumbass. But it would be nice to have some kind of weapon, all things considered. She'd need that baseball bat if her psychopath roommate tried to attack her.
Or if there really were monsters after all.
"Have you even seen any of this dangerous crap?"
no subject
"Yes, I've seen it. I got attacked by one of them last night and you know what? If we don't start moving, there's a pretty good chance it's going to happen again, and I don't want to wait around for that." She started backing up, hoping Elle would just take a hint and follow her.
Not likely. The girl wasn't exactly known for being cooperative. Or smart.
no subject
All the same, Elle didn't really want to stick around and find out what these elusive monsters looked like. Not that she was going to admit it to Claire, now or ever. So she followed along, game face on. Even if Claire kind of had the upper hand in the situation, there wasn't a chance in hell that Elle was going to let her feel that way.

She loosened her grip on the glass shard and tried to discreetly look down as it as they walked. The gash was deep, practically to her bone, but it didn't hurt in the slightest. She still hadn't decided if that was a good or a bad thing. The fact that it didn't heal right away made her look away -- she couldn't stand to look at it, even, if it wasn't going to fix itself. Luckily, they reached the door quickly and she could shrug it off as they went through.
