Elena was easily lead, scoping out anything that stood out in the darkness with the flashlight as they walked. There was an odd sense of safety that came along with having Damon with her now, and though she wasn't about to lower her guard, in her experience there wasn't much in the world that stood a chance against him if they were attacked. Except for other vampires, which was definitely a possibility here, but there wasn't any way of knowing.

"I remember going out to find Stefan, after he left to try and- But it turned out fine, which you know since you were at the house once we got back. Last thing I remember is falling asleep in his room, but I can't fill in anything else from there," she said, running a hand through her hair as she thought it over. "I don't remember anyone even being around, let alone feeling like we were being watched or followed."

Then he was starting up the stairs, and Elena stopped right at the foot of them, trying to shine the light up to see where they lead. "You want to go upstairs?" So maybe she was being paranoid, but really. "Have you never watched a horror movie?"
