After all, even Lana didn't seem conscious of his betrayal, and Manny sure didn't know. If anyone could pull them out of an impossible scrape like this, then Wrighto was certainly the man.
Gant moved closer to the area he remembered seeing the porcupine head, his flashlight beam searching frantically. And there it was! Oh, but the coloring was all wrong, and this boy was definitely younger than good old Wrighto. Pity. Gant kept the light in the boy's face probably a bit longer than necessary before finally lowering it to chest-height. He hid his disappointment by smiling his general smile. Well, he was already this close. Might as well offer an explanation for potentially blinding the kid.
"Sorry there, kiddo! Thought I recognized someone else there for a moment." Gant was seized with the wish to just reach out and rub those spikes out while he tussled the teenager's ridiculously dyed hair, but he restrained himself.
