He folded one arm over the other on the table, posture growing more slumped. What was this all about now? If it wasn’t night time dilemmas, it was daytime dilemmas.
As if he needed advise from someone who had no attachment whatsoever to Aidou’s well-being. Giving a damn about everyone’s safety and happiness was, in these kinds of situations, a lie people told themselves to feel better about their own survival. If Aidou happened to be seriously hurt in the next night, it wouldn’t affect her time here in the slightest. He bet that if he’d lied to her in the first place, they wouldn’t even be having this conversation. They were, after all, practically strangers, and it was a stranger’s concern she was foisting on him. "Worry" that didn’t require anything from her.
Real concern would mean being willing to do uncomfortable things in order to help a vampire. And Aidou couldn’t picture her jumping at that chance.
Inwardly, he sighed. Had he said his distant behavior was even a problem?
"That’s why I’m working hard to get out of here," he replied, giving her a pointed glance. Did Anise understand? What was bothering him was this entire place: its residents, its power repression, its sick games and surprises. Then he let out another sigh, this one audible. Turning his head, he tried to inject an element of assurance to his tone. He didn’t know why he had to say it. "So don’t worry. I’m fine. Nothing’s wrong short of what we’re all undergoing. I just don’t feel very… enthusiastic anymore, not while this place is still standing. That's all."
