Day 48: Sun Room [Second Shift]

Hmph. While this Rude was the proverbial "man of few words," von Karma found more potential use from him than a number of the other patients he had met put together. He would still ask Franziska about the man... as well as the other people he had learned that she had been spending time around. Many of them were utter fools, especially that Kibitoshin.

He ignored the nurse as she insisted that he stay indoors, lest he "catch his death of pneumonia." Already having planned to meet his daughter in the Sun Room, the prosecutor had no intention of spending the cold, gloomy morning in the Courtyard anyway.

It appeared that he was the first to arrive in the spacious room. Gray light from the overcast sky filtered in through the glass windows high above, making it somewhat more difficult for von Karma to peruse the notes on the bulletin board as he awaited Franziska's arrival.

The lines in his forehead furrowed as he saw Kibitoshin's note to her, asking her whether she was "feeling better." What made that blasted oaf think that it was any of his business how she was doing or to worry about her?! She had been raised to take care of herself, damn it! ...Did Franziska say or do something that would lead the clumsy idiot to think otherwise? This, among other things, von Karma would ask her.

After removing his daughter's response to his original note from the board -- and noting that Ms. Taura had yet to reply to his other note -- he sat down at a table in a remote corner of the room, claiming this space that would afford him and his daughter the most privacy.

Mew?

What was that noise? And what was that tugging sensation at the leg of his pants? He peered down in the direction from which the irritating sound had come and was greeted by a tiny orange kitten that had the mistaken notion that his leg was a climbing post. Infernal creature! One glance at his face, and the furry little nuisance was suddenly at the other end of the room, having cleared it within several skittish bounds. Good riddance!

[Waiting for his Dear Daughter]

At least it sounded like Hitsugaya hadn't gotten himself nearly killed like Momo seemed so fond of doing. Before Raine could ask if they should have come to her, the thing on Kratos' arm caught her attention again. "So that is a brace you're wearing on it?" she asked, a spark of eagerness coming into her eyes. If she'd been treating him, she would have used something that immobilized the elbow even though that unfortunately made the arm nearly useless until it healed. But adding something that allowed for flexible support...

If at all possible, she wanted that thing when he was done with it.

That gleam. Of course she wouldn't let him escape any sort of scrutiny, especially when one of his arms was done up in some stifling mess of who knew what. Kratos resisted the urge to roll his eyes and said, "Yes, it is", making sure to load his voice with as much 'Please don't assault me right now; it's inconvenient' as he could. No, the last thing he wanted right now was a full-on Professor Investigation.

She would probably demand that he give it to her when he was through resting his arm, wouldn't she?

Kratos was in luck, as a suitable distraction was currently making its way towards the couch the pair was... on and around, respectively. Rein, just released from her convalescence, had resolved to find Raine immediately, though the nurses had offered her a late meal.

Her appearance was somewhat worn and disheveled; while the patients were returned to their rooms after nightshift freshly cleaned, her stay in the med wing and away from the... experiments, or whatever the night was supposed to be, had apparently seen her denied that process. And when you had as much hair as she did, it was extremely obvious when it wasn't being maintained.

"Raine..." she said, a characteristically brief greeting, but there was relief aplenty in that one word. Though she had been the one to vanish, in their circumstances she could hardly have been sure she would be returned to her former place and condition.

If Raine had been any less reserved by nature she would have hugged her friend in happiness and relief at seeing her again; instead, while tempted, she just turned to her quickly. "Reinforce! I was getting worried... what happened?" She did look like she'd been ill, and sometimes people were taken away briefly to the hospital wing (supposedly), but she wasn't about to just guess.

If Kratos wanted to leave them alone, she wasn't likely to even notice his departure.

Kratos indeed welcomed Rein's arrival as a chance to divert attention, although he couldn't have moved from the couch if he tried; the nurse would just push him back into the Sun Room again under the pretense that he needed less stimulation and more "relaxation", if that was what sitting around aimlessly qualified for now.

Seeing as Rein had chosen to focus solely on Raine, he instead leaned back out of the happy reunion and let his eyes wander around the Sun Room. They fell on Hokuto, surprisingly enough. She still looked shaken, and he couldn't blame her. Last night had been more strenuous than usual for all of them.

"They say I was sick and took me to the east wing," she said, 'they' being the staff. "I didn't feel well before, but it got a lot worse while I was there."

It made her suspect the staff had played some role, and her fragmentary memories of the episode didn't help matters much. They could have been due to long periods of sleep or fever, it was true, but as quick as the staff was to sedate them it was easy to blame them.

It helped that she'd never actually been sick before, and for all her limitations still didn't think of herself as fully human, and sharing the frailties thereof. "I've never been sick before," she decided to share.

"How are you feeling now?" Not that Raine's magic could do much more against illnesses than it could against most of Landel's magic, but she had to ask. Not only did it sound like Reinforce had been possibly seriously ill, but going through that when she'd never been sick before had to be frightening, to say the least.

Of course, it was always possible Reinforce had considered the whole experience unpleasant but still an interesting novelty and was just a little weak still, but Raine was prone to fussing sometimes.
