Oh jeez, he'd thrown an alias at the kid. Dean chewed on his lip before breaking out into a smile that bordered on sheepish.
"It's actually Rick," he said. The cat had begun to stretch out a paw at him - he imagined threateningly, 'cause with Bitchy it was no other way - and Rick shifted over a little just to get him that extra inch away from getting a thigh full of claws. Little bastard was just determined to get at him one way or another, wasn't it? "Rick Derringer. Earl wasn't ever my real name, it's just some old dude's name in Tremors. Sorry 'bout the fake names I was tossing around, guess I was pretty paranoid before."
There wasn't exactly a way to go "I was crazy but I got better" without it just coming out plain wrong. It sounded like they hadn't really talked much, so he supposed that was good in a way - not much in the way of any bridges to burn when Suzaku hadn't even expected him to remember his own name. Still, did beg the question as to how many other patients exactly he'd lied to - probably a lot, and he kinda wished he could remember all the details without it blurring out on him here and there. Be nice to know what details and stories he had to keep straight or people he might piss off looking at them the wrong way.
It sounded like he wasn't the only patient responding pretty well to the treatment and medicine though, so...
