Linda woke with a start and immediately wished that she hadn't. Sunlight blasted into her line of vision and oh, there went her retinas. Ugh... God, she had the worst headache... Not only that, but all her muscles ached too, like she spent all night lugging around firewood or something.
And what the hell was that nightmare...?
"Linda?" Nurse Shelby poked her head through the door to get a better look at her- ...Shelby? Was that really her name? Or just something "Dahlia" was calling her because it sounded cute? Ugh, she couldn't remember! Everything just felt... hazy, like there was an iron curtain hanging over her thoughts and weighing down her mind, like fog laying just underneath her eyebrows and inside her eyelids. "Linda, are you ready to get up?"
Breakfast time already? Why was Nurse S. smiling so brightly? Linda wasn't smiling. In fact, her eyebrows were raised, eyes were blank and confused, and lips were extended in an unhappy pout - she wasn't conveying a picture of cheer. So why was the lady so giddy to see her that way?
She didn't get an answer by the time she found a seat in the cafeteria, just a weird compliment that she must be feeling more like herself. She... was acting more like herself, wasn't she? She wasn't acting like "Dahlia," either side of her. Did- Did that mean she was better?
No. She was still crazy. She knew that. She was just less crazy than before. And she wasn't evil. She wasn't a bitch. She was just her. Just Linda. That was good.
But oh god, some of the things she had done... Or thought of doing. Or did? What actually happened and what didn't? It had all felt so real at one time or another and-- Nurse S. brought her a plate of pancakes. "Thanks," she said slowly, still feeling the fuzz in her head waft around like a balloon. She'd just... Sit to herself for now. Yeah. That sounded good.
