A quick scan of the area with the aid of his flashlight told him that whoever had broken the door had now left this location. Or from what he could see, at least, for he was unsure whether there was something lurking inside the other rooms within the area.
He paused for a while, listening to any suspicious sound. Hearing nothing, he then glanced over his shoulder. "Stay here," he told Feldt.
He reached into his pocket and drew out one of the glass shards, holding it between his index and pointer finger and raising his arm diagonally in front of him as if he were holding a throw dagger. In his other hand was the flashlight, pointed at the darkness as his eyes darted around the area.
But a quick examination of the rooms led to nothing except the knowledge that this was a sort of decontamination room: He had seen something similar back in his world. That, and that there was another door at the right of the room. He glanced back at Feldt and jerked his head to one side, a signal for her to follow him.
