The prosecutor cocked an eyebrow at Mr. Gavin's sudden, brief reaction to his name. Another one in this blasted institute who had actually heard of him before? How had he learned of him? To whom had this man spoken? Of course, von Karma wasn't entirely certain of this, but why else would his name give Mr. Gavin pause, even for just a second? ...Just how well-known was he really back in his homeland? Right now, von Karma regretted offering his true name, but his original alias may have been compromised, and he simply hadn't had enough time to think of another viable one.

"Indeed, I am." At this point, hedging about his country of origin would prove futile. Besides, von Karma needed to learn what this man -- this veritable stranger to him -- knew of him. The prosecutor gave Mr. Gavin a scrutinizing look. "I suppose you have heard of my family's name before?"
