Alone in the dark corridor, Abe finally realized what felt slightly off about his newest "mission". His breathing apparatus was gone, his clingy wetsuit was loose fabric (probably cotton), his eyes were clear, and he was missing approximately a dozen pockets and pouches. All the things they loaded him down with when he normally went out were missing, replaced with the wonderful traits of the land-dwelling human body and a lightness of clothing that made him feel halfway to naked. The bulk was necessary for protection and to cater to his unique physiology, but spending an entire day walking around without it was still nice. The human body had its benefits in its natural environment.
Abe kept his palm pressed to the wall as he walked, reaching out only as far as he could go without outright pain. The information he picked up was so minimal as to be less than useless (something had walked by at some point in time), but ideally it could provide him an early warning system should something dramatic happen nearby.
It would have to be a very quiet dramatic something for him not to notice it with his other senses first, and a dramatic something that was moving very slowly, but it still counted as useful.
