DAY 43: CAFETERIA, MORNING

Where was Blitzwing?

Lugnut ignored the nurse's fussing over his foot, even as it howled objections to his ill treatment of it the night before, pounding through the town in search of his wingmate, reportedly helpless and injured by an attack the night before-- and not finding him, not seeing even a glimpse of his crazy triple-changing ally.

Snarling at the nurse, but restraining himself from shows of violence-- Blitzwing would mock him if he showed up drugged already, and he would be useless to Megatron like that--he made his way impatiently to the cafeteria, stopping for just long enough to post an urgent notice on the board.

Where was he?

Looming in the middle of the cafeteria, he took the tray the nurse handed him (filled with disgusting human fuel, didn't she know he didn't have time to eat, not when his wingmate was missing?) and ignored it, watching for Blitzwing, where was he?

He refused to think about what might have happened to a wheelchair-bound, drugged, incapacitated warrior, with the swarms of monsters flooding around him, clawing and biting...

[for Scourge]

Yes, mistakes. Stupidity more like. He knew that this was real and yet he hadn't even thought of the consequences. "Yeah, I guess we are alright," Tsukasa admitted, although he was still worried about the others. Endrance had been hurt last night at least, and probably Haseo too. Energy they could recover with food and rest, but injuries, real injuries weren't as easy.

He gave a soft laugh at that, it was a little strained but it was something. "I've never really thought about how well zombies would burn to be honest," he replied. "It wouldn't have been too bad if it had just been them that had burned." But no, things had to be frustratingly real and set on fire.

"Clearly," Leon spoke around a mouthful of bacon, "we just need to team up more. If you set things on fire, I can put them out. If I... oversaturate something, you can dry it off." He grinned once he'd swallowed. It was a silly way of putting things, but it sounded pretty fair to him. If he had full access to all his abilities, he'd be a lot more helpful. He was sure the same was true of Tsukasa as well.

He tilted his head thoughtfully. "What type of magic do you use, anyway?" It was odd to think about, but he knew most people here didn't use the same sort of Heraldry spells he did. "I didn't recognize any of the spell names." They might have been in a different language, because otherwise they didn't make much sense. What was so wrong with just saying thunder bolt?

The conversation was actually managing to do a pretty good job of cheering Tsukasa up, much to his surprise. It was a bit like Mimiru never accepting him being depressed and browbeating him until he cheered up. "We should start up a laundrette or something then," Tsukasa said, his smile widening. "Or the most successful but underhanded firefighting service ever." He was obviously tired because he wasn't sure if that made any sense even to him, but hopefully Leon wouldn't hold it against him.

His next question was a little more tricky. "What type?" he asked, blinking dumbly for a moment. 'The usual kind' probably didn't count as an answer. "Well, it's just the type that everyone uses," he said a little sheepishly. "But I'm a Wavemaster so I can use higher level spells than people who aren't Wavemasters." This was awkward.

here in America we call them laundromats ;3

That made Leon laugh, which was something he needed after the night before. He had no idea what a laundrette was, but he could understand firefighting. "That would be pretty underhanded, all right."

Tsukasa's answer to his question caused him to raise an eyebrow, however. The type that everyone uses? What sort of answer was that? "Does it not have any particular name? You just call it 'magic?'" That didn't seem all that believable. "Where I come from, it's referred to as symbology heraldry, but I haven't heard anyone outside of my homeworld call it that. Do you have any specializations? I ended up learning only a handful of specific elements so that I could more easily perfect my use of them."

Tsukasa nodded a little hesitantly. "Just magic," he agreed with an awkward smile. "It doesn't have any special name or anything like yours does. We get power from wave marks, the tattoos that me and Haseo and Endrance have," he explained, reaching up to touch the marks on his cheeks. He felt like he was lying to Leon and he didn't like the feeling. At the same time he sort of wished he'd spent more of the six months that he'd been trapped studying up on the storyline for The World.

As for specialities. "Magic is a specialty in The World," he said with a wry smile. "Only Wavemasters can use the most powerful spells and summons. We're just no good at fighting."

[identity profile] heraldric.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
"The World?" Now honestly. Leon was willing to give them some credit for the tattoos - it reminded him a bit of what Ronixis had said about the magic in his world - but otherwise wherever Tsukasa came from was beginning to sound incredibly unoriginal. He was unable to help raising an eyebrow at the other boy. First they didn't have any real name for their magic, but that was forgivable he supposed. Yet to simply call their home 'The World?' Did they honestly believe they were the only one?

Now truthfully, before the Sorcery Globe have appeared those on his home planet hadn't known there was much else living out in the sea of stars. But at least their planet had an original name!

[identity profile] cannotlogout.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, The World," Tsukasa replied, starting to look a little uncomfortable with the topic. Leon sounded so suspicious and Tsukasa wished he could just explain. If it had just been him then he would have explained, but it would affect Haseo and Endrance too, and Tsukasa didn't want to just out them without checking it was alright first.

"There are five um, areas within it and each area has something called a Root Town where people go to trade and form exploration parties and buy equipment. They're pretty much the only places not overrun with monsters," he explained, adding in a little of what he could remember of The World's plot.

[identity profile] heraldric.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
((And that last post is why I should never respond that late at night. >_>))

Perhaps Tsukasa simply wasn't that well educated in geography. He was definitely giving a very basic overview of the place he lived in. (Root Town? Seriously?) The mention of monsters peaked his interest, though. "Are they something that's always been there? The monsters, I mean." He leaned forward a bit. "Or is this a new development? On my homeworld, a foreign object crashed down to our planet and brought an infestation of monstrous creatures with it."

If there was some sort of connection between their worlds, like the Sorcery Globe, then that would be worth looking into and he'd need to let Claude know right away. If the world they were currently in was anything to go by, however, then it was just as possible that there was no connection at all.

[identity profile] cannotlogout.livejournal.com 2009-08-13 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Something had brought an infestation of monsters? That was terrible, on a par with if Godzilla really appeared to ransack Tokyo or something. Or if the monsters from The World became real. "That's terrible," he said, sounding dismayed at the very prospect of it. The monsters here was terrible but having them invade your home would be so much worse. "Um, there's always been monsters," he continued, finally reaching for a piece of fruit from his plate. It would be pretty boring if there weren't any monsters. "There were some very dangerous ones recently though until Kite defeated them." Dangerous monsters that could actually hurt normal players rather than just sending you back to where you'd saved last.

[identity profile] heraldric.livejournal.com 2009-08-13 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do they have any specific origin?" Leon frowned, trying to take in the information Tsukasa was giving him and finding it lacking in detail. They were normal, and yet they'd become more dangerous recently for no reason? There had to be something he was missing. "Did something affect them in a way that would make them become more powerful?"

Forget not being versed in geography. It was possible this guy just didn't get out much at all and didn't have the proper means of study to make up for the lack of worldly experience. They'd have to work on this.

[identity profile] cannotlogout.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Tsukasa grimaced at the question. It came too close to things that still pained him to think about. "Morganna," he said flatly. "That's who caused it. She wanted to stop Aura awakening properly. Aura is like... a goddess I suppose. The Goddess of The World. She was sleeping and Morganna didn't want her to wake up." His breath hitched at the memory of how close it had been, how Tsukasa had nearly corrupted Aura irrevocably. "She made more powerful monsters to carry out her will and stop the people who were opposing her. The more powerful monsters should be gone now with the defeat of the Cursed Wave." Although from what Endrance and Haseo had hinted, that wasn't necessarily the case.

[identity profile] heraldric.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
So there was a cause. That made more sense than simply there were monsters, and now the other boy was mentioning actual names. If he'd said the monsters were brought by someone named 'Evil Wizard' in order to stop 'Powerful Person' from awakening, Leon's face would have met his palm so hard he might not have been able to pry it off for days.

Tsukasa seemed saddened just relaying this information, however, so the mage held back any snide comments. "The Cursed Wave?"

[identity profile] cannotlogout.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't think he'd ever forget the image of Aura surrounded by thorns and those terrible leeches, her skin beginning to blacken as she was corrupted. And that had been his fault. He just had to remind himself that it had all worked out in the end. She was awake and Morganna was gone.

"Mmmm," Tsukasa agreed, almost absently as he tried to work out how to explain it. "Morganna split herself into the eight phases of the Cursed Wave so that she could hunt down Aura after she woke. Kite defeated the phases and Morganna at the same time." He smiled wryly. "I don't have all of the details about what happened during that time. I kept up with as much as I could, but I had to catch up with the school I'd missed and sort things out with Bear so that he could adopt me."
