Day 41: Sun Room

Haseo's steps were heavy with the weight of righteous anger as he was escorted into the Sun Room, his posture so sullen and reluctant you could almost hear the nostalgic cry of an electric guitar. He was seething, and though perhaps it was a bit harder to be intimidating while wearing the uniform of an insane asylum and flanked by a bored-looking orderly, it was not for lack of trying.

Unfortunately, his nurse seemed unaffected by the act, and even with the cloud of failing to keep "Kai" away from "Peyton" hanging over her, remained determinedly cheerful. She merely said something about receiving a lecture later on, ignored his retorts, and assured him that it would be alright even though his internet stalker was in the same building. For the most part, Haseo tuned her babbling out after that, dismissing it as hopeless.

"...and usually this would be the time children would be taking showers, but you don't have to worry about that right now. Now then, le--"

"Wait. What?"

"Oh, all the children seventeen or under are separated right now while the adults go to the courtyard..."

"Hey, I'm not a kid you old--!"

"Oh of course you aren't dear, but you're not eighteen yet either, now are you?"

Haseo resisted the urge to do something rash, literally biting his tongue to keep quiet. But upon having the bulletin board pointed out to him, he shrugged off his anger for the most part and headed that way, fully intending to get more answers than he'd had time to receive during breakfast.

Well... at least Endrance is in another shower group, he thought, Thank god.

[Closed to Tsukasa, for now!]

It'd been hard to keep that perspective before, when she'd brought up the theory that it might be possible to change their futures, but when it'd been brought up in her other talks, it seemed like she was the only one to feel that way. Being around Shikamaru's logic could be a good thing when it came to strategy, but emotional matters and hope and morale, it could really take a toll on those.

"I wanted to believe that," she nodded, drawing her legs in and crossing her arms over her knees in a neat little ball. "Hope is just a lot harder to hold on to here." But they were both right. If she didn't learn from what the future told her, how could she be expected to change anything? Maybe there was something Kakashi had learned before his death, some bit of information he knew of that had led up to it... if they had the knowledge before-hand, maybe they would be able to change it. Maybe her resolve just hadn't been strong enough to hear the things she needed to hear.

The rest hit closer to home than she would've liked. Sasuke was becoming that person. Obsessed with revenge, to the point where he hurt his friends and turned his back on his home. Sakura could only hope she would be able to reach him before he was beyond help.

"I know," she said somewhat sheepishly. "It just seems like I'm always coming to you with problems I should be able to figure out alone. I guess I'm weak when it comes to things like this."

"Yes, hope is harder to hold on to here," Kenshin agreed, "which is why we need to hold on to it even more. If you give up hope, that's just one more victory for Martin Landel. Having hope is an act of resistance, however small." The rurouni smiled. "So, as trite and naive as it may sound, hope is a good thing to cling to."

He shook head. "No, you're not weak. Quite the opposite, in fact. Admitting that you might have weaknesses isn't the same as being weak. If you actually reach the point where you realize you need to ask for help, that makes you even stronger. This one learned that particular lesson only recently. After, ah, Kaoru-dono and the others threatened bodily harm."
