Had he really slept through the last shift? He must have, because he'd found himself being awoken by an oh-so-considerate nurse just in time for lunch. Given that he'd hardly touched his breakfast, Matt allowed himself to be served lunch, but found to his great displeasure that it was Not-Quite-Fish-And-Chips day. Well, since none of the food served here was all that bad (though whether or not it was drugged was still an unsolved mystery) he figured he might as well eat what he could.

The cafeteria was filling up quickly, and he spared the room one long look around in the hopes that maybe, just maybe, the asshole on the bulletin had been lying and Mello was still around. But he saw no familiar disheveled blond head. That doesn't mean anything, he told himself, knowing it to be a lie. The chances of him showing back up at this point were slim.

Goddamn that bastard for leaving him here.

Angrily, Matt dropped his tray down at the first available seat and plopped himself down in front of it. Only then did he even take notice of who he'd sat across from, and he blinked, momentarily brought out of his anger, at the hurried manner in which she was devouring her meal. "Hey, now," he muttered. "I don't think it's going to run away on you."
