Day 40: Recreational Field
Kio's breakfast ended on a much happier note than it had started. However, for once the announcement truly surprised him. He blinked as his nurse came to pick him up. Recreational Field? But.. but if they had a greenhouse, he wanted to go there. The prospect of gardening was a truly liberating one, an island of joy in this hellhole. He thought about going to the Sun Room and lying down, but it occurred to him that he hadn't had proper fresh air since being here. With a cheery goodbye wave to Honey, he followed his torturer outside.
It was much better than he had expected. The sun wasn't too hot (what time of the year were they in, anyway?), so he walked slowly along the walls, fascinated by the size of the field. He wondered if Sou-chan was alright. He hadn't even checked the board. Well, if Soubi wanted to apologize, Kio would be willing to listen. The place was so crisp and clean. He had to think if anyone had ever gone over the walls. What was out there? Freedom? Or a different sort of monster?
Leaning against one of the walls, Kio took as much advantage of the sun as he could. He desperately wanted a lollipop. One was quietly nestled in his pocket, but he would need to wait until the nurses were busy with other patients before he tried anything. Soubi had gone to some trouble to get them, the least he could do was make sure they didn't get confiscated. So with bated breath, Kio waited for a shift in the mood. He was, for once, content. Not happy, but not going crazy either.
[Sou-chan! Team Loveless deploy!]

FIGHT SCENE DURP DURP D: These are hard.
A little red flag popped up in the back of his mind at Van's invitation, but he was in no mood to play it safe. Whatever trick the man was planning, Teisel was confident he could handle it. Handle it and pay it back, measure for measure. A good fight felt wonderful after all the sneaking around he'd been doing. For the first time in days, he felt properly awake.
He wasn't dumb enough to attack the same way twice, though. That lessen had been beaten into him years ago. "Let's see it, then, jackass!" Coming at Van again, he made to throw another left. Twisting, he abruptly switched to his right, aiming low with the assumption that Van would be blocking high.
Van was fighting so defensively that Teisel neglected his own guard, too worked up by now to care whether he got hit or not.

Seeing the strike come from the left, Van immediately raised his right arm to block it. Yet the strike never came, and Teisel stuck at his left side. Van was just barely able to move his left arm quick enough to block it. So Teisel was good at feigning attacks and quick to change in the middle of a motion, Van would have to fight especially carefully if he didn't want to get hit again.
Not that that idea lasted much longer. The moment Van saw a opening, he swung with his right fist to take it, not sure when Teisel would be foolish enough to give it to him again.
[ooc: ...no idea where Teisel's guard may be open, so you can decide where that is and if the hit actually connects or not. sound fair?]

He caught hold of Van's left arm just in time to feel the other man's swing connect solidly with his ribs. "Ngk!" Half-winded, Teisel lost his grip in favor of turning to drive his elbow into Van's stomach with as much force as he could muster. "Son of a bitch," he hissed through clenched teeth. It was a dirty, cheating, cheap shot, Teisel's specialty. He was irritated that his own swing had been blocked, but the fact that Van had landed a good one on him meant all bets were off.
...The guy had a decent arm on him; his side was going to hurt for the rest of the day at the very least. Not that Teisel was going to acknowledge any pain, though. He wasn't going to give this bastard any reason to think he could win.
no subject
With a grunt, he pulled back, trying to catch his breath before Teisel could hit him again. Keeping his arms raised and ready to block again, he kept his eyes on Teisel, glaring at him. Being defeated by that replica before being brought to this place was enough, but he had no intention to let himself lose to some simple-minded brute. If he his sword, Teisel would be lying on the ground in pieces, Van was sure of that.
Teisel was strong but prone to lashing out when antagonized. A distraction might prove effective as well, if only Van could find one. The immediate area around them was empty and Teisel had chosen a spot far enough away that he couldn't hope that some kind soul was idiotic enough to attempt to break apart their fight. He'd have to think of something else, and quickly. He could only try and block for so long.
no subject
But armor or no, it was clear by now that Van wasn't as seasoned a brawler as he'd made himself appear. He kept trying to fight properly, which was a sure-fire way to lose against the underhanded tactics Teisel had picked up over the years. There was a way to fix that, though...
Still, given time to recover and think between attacks, Van might very well win (loath as Teisel was to admit it). Well, Teisel wasn't going to give him that time if he could help it. "What'cha thinking about, eh?" he growled, breath catching in his throat as pain shot through his bruised ribs. "Think about this!" Darting forward, he dove to tackle Van, slamming his full weight into the man shoulder first.

Van didn't even get a chance to say anything to Teisel's next question, as the man immediately lunged for him. There was no time to dodge and no way he could block against Teisel's entire body. The only thing he could do was brace himself for the impact. Despite that, he still feel to the ground, hard.
As soon as he could, he growled and jerked his knee upward, not even caring where he hit. "Enough!"

And then Van kneed him in the groin. Hard. Suddenly snapped back into lucidity, he froze, slightly cross-eyed. The peace was extraordinarily short-lived, however.
"SON OF A BITCH FUCK GODDAMN!" The commander wanted to play it like that, huh? Tears rolling down his cheeks, Teisel mustered up the motor control to slam his fist into Van's face. And again, for good measure.

Then Teisel froze, and Van realized exactly which spot he had hit. He had no time to take advantage of it, as Teisel soon struck back.
Next thing Van saw was stars, burning white as the pain shot through his face. And the taste of blood was thick in his mouth. Immediately he raised his arms over his head, attempting to protect himself from another blow.
oh, teisel, this won't end well...
The sight of blood was more exciting than it might have been under normal circumstances. But this fight had ceased to be a matter of personal honor a while ago; now Teisel was simply out to cause as much damage as he could before someone pulled them apart. "Ha!" he crowed, savoring the small triumph for a moment before setting into Van with renewed vigor.
"Pompous, self-satisfied, cowardly son of a bitch!" He punctuated each word with a heavy swing, leaning his weight into it as much as he could while keeping his balance. "Fifteen islands' worth of people like you never could beat me, now could they?" Naturally, Van wouldn't know a thing about Teisel's exploits, but the pirate's mind had drifted slightly elsewhere.
this likely would not end well. >>
Still shielding himself with his arms, he brought both legs up to try and kick Teisel off, or at least daze him enough that Van could roll out from under him. If he could just move out of the position, he'd might stand a chance again.
Re: this likely would not end well. >>
Sensing that he was losing his advantage, Teisel hit harder, trying to force his way past Van's frantic blocking to get at the man's face again.

But the action left him open to be struck again, and Van took another hard hit to the face, hard enough to daze him for just a moment.

Teeth bared in an angry snarl, he grabbed for whatever he could reach. He was just getting warmed up.

Van fell hard on the ground. Again. Looking back down at Teisel, he growled out, "I have no intention of running." Then with all the strength he could muster, he kicked at Teisel with his free leg, hoping to connect with the other man's face.
[ooc: aaaand, this will be the last comment before I disappear off into 'real life'; if we still need to figure out how it ends when I get back, PM me? I might be able to respond to that, but it could end up waiting until I come back. :x]
You made me bleed my own blood!
Teisel's head snapped back and he saw stars. Son of a bitch, that hurt! Reflexively bringing a hand up to his face, he pulled it away and stared at the blood covering it, brow furrowed in confusion. Eyes watering so badly Van was a hazy blur in front of him (watering--he was certainly not crying, hell no), Teisel glared.
"Du brog by fuggig dose, du fugger!" That just about tore it. With an animal yell, Teisel threw himself at the commander. The cheating bastard was going to look like hamburger when he was finished!

The nurse's voice was like iron as she marched over to where the two men were making a spectacle of themselves. Honestly, she couldn't help but think, the fresh air is supposed to make them relax!
But if the outdoors weren't enough, then she certainly had something that would do the trick. She hadn't forgotten the riot from ten days ago, and she'd be damned if something like that happened under her watch.
As the two orderlies who'd accompanied her moved to pull the men apart and restrain them, she made quick work out of preparing two syringes of sedatives.

Van allowed himself to pulled away from Teisel, simply glad to have a reason for the fight to end without him looking like a coward. However, whatever small relief he felt soon ended once he saw the syringe. Though he knew better than to attempt to fight it, Van still had to will himself to keep still as the injection was made.
Thankfully, it didn't take long before the effects of the sedatives took hold, making it difficult to continue caring about the situation.

"Back off!" No way in hell was anyone coming near him with one of those again!
