At least he defend himself in some way, much better for his arms to be hit than to be struck into another daze. It at least gave him some time to think, even if he couldn't think as clearly with Teisel shouting profanities at him and attacking him with seemingly all his strength. Van couldn't wait for any of the faculty to decide to come to his aid, he'd have to rely on himself.

Still shielding himself with his arms, he brought both legs up to try and kick Teisel off, or at least daze him enough that Van could roll out from under him. If he could just move out of the position, he'd might stand a chance again.
