"Good thing, too," Teisel snapped, "'Cause with the way you act, I don't see a reason for anyone to listen to you." Still making an attempt to needle Van into attacking first, he went a little further. "Do you do that at home? Save your own ass and leave your men for dead? Some leader."
Watching Van scoot forward, Teisel tried to stifle an unpleasant giggle. How textbook could you get? He'd never had hand-to-hand training in the sense that the commander probably had, but Teisel was by nature and experience a brawler, and he knew how to take a punch as well as throw one. Forcing himself to stay loose (which was getting harder to do now that the fight had turned more personal), he moved to the side. If Van wanted to keep him in sight, he'd have to pivot. The man seemed the strategic type, so Teisel decided to press the issue with a quick feint directed at Van's head.
"Oh yeah? From what I saw, Asch was taking care of himself just fine before you got here." Changing directions, he moved back the other way. Teisel wanted Van to move so he couldn't find a position to brace himself in, but he didn't want him to build up any momentum, either. The commander wasn't much shorter than Teisel himself, and he was probably just as heavy. "Unless you have a more personal reason to protect him like that. Don't ask, don't tell, right?" he sneered. It was a low blow, but Teisel had never had a problem with low blows.
And there it was. From Van's parting shot, with the implication that Teisel was useless, it was as though the man had pressed a large red button in Teisel's brain labeled 'Weak Spot: Do Not Push.' This time there was no feint. "Shut up!" A couple quick steps brought him within arm's reach, and Teisel took a swing. Van would get a face full of the ol' Bonne left hook if he didn't move fast.
oh snap, shit just got real :o
