Didn't mean he couldn't feel all that crap building up: how everything stopped mattering when Sam was dead, all those thoughts circling in his head like you're a failure, a screw-up, and how if that crossroads didn't show, he had no idea what he would do. Then coming back, seeing Sammy alive, but knowing there was still that Big Bad out there and that rather than taking the safe route, his brother instead wanted to head right back into the danger zone, leaving Dean no choice but to go along for the ride. Only he hadn't ever made it to Bobby's, instead waking up in Landels. Three days of bullshit.
And then Sammy was taken.
Suddenly he had no idea what he was going to do with the truth, when he was gonna tell him or how. It was a lot harder to deal with it when his kid brother was right here with him.
All of that pressure finally hit a breaking point, helped along by something as simple as Slappy getting mouthy with him.
That Crossroads Bitch said he had a year left. Dean could deal with having only a year; but he'd be damned if some random demon was gonna taunt him about taking it away from him.
Dean reached up, rubbing the back of his neck, a smirk curving his lips as if he was thinking of something to say and couldn't really believe the crazy that was comin' out of Slappy's mouth. The hunter seemed to look away.
Suddenly Dean wheeled around. He pulled back his fist and slugged the other patient hard in the face, not caring if it was just a love-tap to the damn thing, only that it made him feel better and it wiped that gloating know-it-all look off his face.
