As the sedative began to take hold and Christopher stopped struggling, the orderlies slowly began to back off until only two remained with him. They were both cautiously watching to make certain he'd not suddenly manage to throw off the drugs' effects and awaiting further orders.

The original nurse stepped in again to take a cursory look at the boy's injuries, tsk'ing quietly in mild dismay until startled by the unexpected apology. "Oh, dear. I suppose it must have been a shock for you, wasn't it?" She gave his shoulder a gentle pat and nodded to the two orderlies. "We're going to give you some time by yourself, Christopher, so you can calm down a bit and think. I'm sure you'll be feeling better after that."

Now that they were no longer needed, most of the other staff members moved on to their other duties. The two orderlies left behind carefully lifted their charge and carried him out of the Sun Room and toward the solitary rooms, accompanied by the nurse who attempted to quell the curiosity of the other patients as they made their way out. "It's all right now," she said, in a reassuring manner, making shooing motions as those who turned to watch. "He was just a little upset..."
