It wasn't as though the absence of the flashlight wasn't obvious, so Frey hardly felt that he was giving up much of anything by asking Uesugi to take the lead. In any case, he felt a little better not having the man at his back--he didn't particularly trust Uesugi, though he was bound to protect the man simply because he shared a body with Takaya.
