There are different planes of reality in the universe...I just happen to be from one." He was ignoring the 'ordinary kid' comment for right now. If he wanted to convince Jones that he was, in fact, sane, suddenly coming out with 'oh, by the way, I'm a shape-shifting dragon' probably wouldn't help his cause any.
