"Ah... no. Nothing in particular," Kaito said, noting that Hattori had latched onto the subject of books and dropped the issue of the key. Some secret, perhaps? Or something he couldn't discuss during the day? Maybe Kaito was reading too much into it, but he made a mental note to ask later, when Kudou wasn't around to provide Hattori an easy way out of the question.

"I took a look last time we were in here, and there really wasn't anything that caught my attention." Lupin still would've been nice, but he especially couldn't say that with Kudou around. He didn't want to think about what kinds of assumptions the detective might draw from knowing what books Kaito was in the mood to read.
