DAY 37: MEN'S SHOWERS (4th Shift)

There had been an awkward air left between him and Tyki after their conversation. Yuuri knew he wasn't the best at explaining much of anything, and for the tenth time he wondered why Murata wasn't here to answer the difficult questions for him. Everyone had been herded out of the cafeteria after that, and Yuuri had simply followed along in confusion as he headed towards the showers.

Yuuri still hadn't seen Wolfram yet and the young Maou was wondering if the blonde Mazoku was alright. Stretching his head up higher, Yuuri attempted to look over the heads of the other patients around him in an attempt to catch sight of Wolfram. Unfortunately, though, he was unsuccessful.

"Where are you, Wolfram?" He muttered to himself while stepping under the shower's spray. Maybe a shower would help clear his mind.

Haku nodded. "I look forward to your defeat." He somehow made the 'nothing-but-a-towel' look seem almost regal.

"Yes, you would say something cocky like that. Well, I'll have you know, sir, that I do not make mistakes." He wasn't pulling off the naked thing.

"You've already made your first one," Haku said. "Agreeing to face me again."

"No no," Artemis said, waving his washcloth. "The mistake was yours: challenging me in the first place."

"We shall see, we shall see." Haku's lips twitched slightly at that.

"We shall, when I am laughing over your defeated form, begging for mercy."

Perhaps that was a little extreme...

Haku smiled. "You wouldn't laugh over my fallen body," he said. "You're much to kind for that. You would give me a decent burial... so that I may rise up and go after your brains."

"Egads!" Artemis exclaimed, looking horrified. "I hadn't thought of that. I'll have to seal your body with the extremely secret and cult-oriented technique of the Fowl family. Heaven help me if it fails to act!"

"I am immune to such things," Haku said. "You had best come up with a new plan."

"Immune?!" Artemis raised fist to his mouth in mock-terror. "N-no, it can't be! That secret is my family's most secret of secrets. How could you be immune?!"

Haku grinned evilly. "Because, Fowl, your family and mine are, in actuallity, sworn enemies. We have been for generations."

"What! Impossible... my great-great-great-great-grand-uncle eradicated your kind hundreds of years ago! At least... that is what the legends lead me to believe..."

Thank goodness they were playing, otherwise that evil grin might have frozen Artemis' blood for real.

"Not all of us. I am all that is left and I have sworn revenge on you and your clan."

"Ah, I am done for. There is nothing I can possibly do against the last of that clan. I don't suppose you would take pity on me, would you?"

"Never," Haku shook his head. "I will never show pity to you and your family."

"You can't honestly say that!" Artemis clasped the soap in his hands. "I beg you, at least spare my life!"

Haku pretended to think about that. "What will you do for your life? What can you offer me?"

"Euh..." Artemis paused. "For my life...?" What was the normal thing people did in these types of situations? First born child? Their daughter's hand in marriage? Undying loyalty?

"Sympathy and a shoulder to cry on?" Artemis offered. "Or perhaps I can darn your socks for the next ten years?"

Haku nodded thoughtfully. "Perhaps this discussion would be best held when you are .... dressed."

Artemis blushed to his ears. "H-Haku!" The boy turned away and drew his knees together again. "When you say it like that it sounds strange!"

Haku couldn't help it. He laughed. The sound was soft, amused, but not cruel. "I'm sorry. I couldn't help it. You just looked so..." He shrugged helplessly.

"Scrawny?" Artemis provided, looking huffily at the floor again. It wasn't fair, why was Haku so beautiful and he was so... skinny?

"No. Innocent and eager."

Artemis thought he felt the bottom drop out of his stomach. Was he supposed to be happy? Or flattered? Or humiliated?

"I... I'm sorry," he moved his washcloth over his lap. "I can't... help it." He felt a little ill. Perhaps he'd become a little too loose in the showers. "I know I don't know anything about these things... but it's what makes me even more curious. Maybe that's strange to you..."

Haku shook his head. "No, no. It's a good thing." He smiled. "It's a compliment. Really."
