Honesty, for once. Kira could have appreciated it for strengthening his resolve, but that would come later, after he'd actually figured out where he was and where he stood in this unfamiliar place.

His right hand instinctively left the table and clutched at his left side, where Wabisuke should have been. He remembered that his sword was gone when his hand gripped empty air. His jaw ached as he clenched his teeth harder together, desperate for some kind of retribution, some kind of blood-soaked answer for all the crimes Gin had committed. But without his sword - without his power - what could he do? Gin was far enough away that jumping over the table to catch him would take too long and allow him to escape into the crowds, possibly find allies and defend himself.

Kira caught himself rising from the seat again and forced himself back down.

"Then your excuses mean nothing." They never had.

... there was a knife on his tray.
