Nightshift 36: F-A Block Hallway

[from here]

She didn't pause, only noting that the halls were empty for once. It seemed that she was one of the first out. It didn't matter in the long run. She was focused on her tasks; nothing else registered.

Ururu thought Orhime had said something, but she didn't really care what was being said. Kisuke-san was back, and holding her, and that was almost the best thing that could have happened. She gripped his shirt and cuddled close, ignoring everything else. It was easy to do. She was so very tired, and with Kisuke-san here, Ururu felt safe for the first time in ages.

It was why she was smiling when she closed her eyes.

Then the two not in the best condition were the ones who'd be able to explain. Why was he not surprised?

Fai got a disapproving, but knowing look from the Ninja before glancing down at the small girl. Even an idiot would have seen that she wasn't letting go of him for a while. That should have made getting her to a room easy. Or more would have made it easy had the one holding her been able to stand for more than three seconds. Fai couldn't even take himself anywhere! And Kurogane knew it.

Geeze. At least she was pretty light anyway.

"All right." He heard Orihime's worry and made sure not to give her any reason to panic by keeping calm about it. "You know which is her room, right? Then you lead," he ordered, then nodded her out of the way from the two on the floor. When she'd moved, he was the one to kneel down, but on Fai's side instead of the little girl's. As there was a chance that Ururu might be able to hear him in her dazed state, he kept his words simple and devoid of what anger he had for the magician right then. "Don't drop her," was all before he hefted Fai from the ground. Even then he had to be more careful that he would have due to the girl.

Such a pain.

Yuuhi expected to be yelled at or berated for his reckless behavior. It was possible that was still coming, but for the moment, the ninja didn't seem as concerned about it as he usually would be. He was worried about Ururu too, Yuuhi was sure, but then the world lurched around him as Kurogane picked up not just Ururu, but him too.

The small bit of warning was all he got before Kuro grabbed them both, but it was enough for him to hold on tightly as he could to the little girl, though he still leaned most of his and her weight into Kurogane's chest as he carried them.

"I'm sorry," he said quietly, just loud enough for the ninja to hear, though it probably didn't escape Ururu either, close as she was. His heart and his breathing began to slow, at least a little from what they'd been before as he tried to figure out what might be wrong with Ururu. He hoped it wasn't much further to Shiki's room.

Kurogane didn't mind any of the weight since they were both pretty light. What he did mind was when Fai decided he needed to apologize.

He bit back telling him to shut up, again being more careful for Ururu being there, and only grunted in hopes of shutting the magician up. He didn't want apologies; this shouldn't have been happening in the first place!

Orihime started to lead once Kurogane had given her a nod and headed for the right hallway.
