Nightshift 36: F-A Block Hallway

[from here]

She didn't pause, only noting that the halls were empty for once. It seemed that she was one of the first out. It didn't matter in the long run. She was focused on her tasks; nothing else registered.

Okay, so the one hallway led to another. The flashlight made traveling a little easier, but it would've been a lot better if she had even the slightest idea about where she was going. Or where she was, even.

There were people in this hall, but Kimberly didn't even think about trying to ask them about this place. If this really was some sort of scheme, then they could very well be in on it. Or they could've gotten caught in it unwillingly, but she wasn't ready to take a risk and find out just yet. She needed to find her communicator, or at least another way of contacting the others, first.

Would there be any point, then, in heading back towards the basement? It wasn't as though she was interested in any of the other rooms it had to offer, and though the Arena itself held a certain thrill, she just wanted to see what else Martin Landel was hiding.

Oh, and there were new patients tonight as well. Hadn't that been what he'd said? It certainly looked like it from the several faces that she didn't recognize. Though she admittedly didn't pay as much attention to the other female patients as she probably should, their numbers were outmatched by the males enough that an increase was noticeable.

She stopped beside one in particular who practically screamed fresh meat. "You. Why don't you come along with me?"

"Whoa!" Kimberly jumped and spun around to face the woman, although she managed to stop herself before she dropped into a defensive stance. After all, she wanted to avoid fighting. At least until she found her things, anyway. Or better yet, find out whether or not she could pull off a morph in this place. Regardless! Having people sneak up on you--especially when you were a Ranger--was so not a good way to avoid fighting. "Don't do that! Geez!"

After taking a couple breaths in an attempt to calm herself down, she frowned, having finally realized what it was she had said. "You nearly give me a heart attack, and you want me to simply go with you to... wherever it is you're going? I don't think so."

"Now, now," Callisto tisked. The smile she gave Kimberly was hardly friendly. "Your lack of perception is no fault of mine."

Putting her hands on her hips, the former warlord gave the hallway a look-over, as though weighing her options. She had a fairly good idea of where she wanted to go, but there was no reason to mention that just yet. "You're on your own, aren't you? Just arrived? I was simply offering a helping hand."
