[From here]

As von Karma stepped out of the shed, he turned the flashlight off once again to conserve energy. He paused to appraise the bat in the better light that the moon provided. It certainly wasn't of the best quality, but it was more than sufficient to serve its intended purpose.

Though von Karma never cared for the sport of baseball, its implements indeed had useful applications. He imagined sneaking up behind Edgeworth, and just at the right moment... Oh, how he wanted to hear that lovely cracking sound as the bat met the boy's skull at just the perfect angle. Like his miserable father, von Karma's worthless student literally would never know what hit him before he died. A cruel grin spread across the prosecutor's face at this glorious thought.

Yes. Now he was ready to confront the Edgeworth spawn. All he needed was merely to find him. Provided, of course, that the boy had survived the scorpion attack, but von Karma knew that his own student was intelligent and resourceful enough to evade the creature. He had taught the miserable brat too well.

As he resumed his trip back to the building, he was pleasantly surprised to find that the bat could double as a temporary walking stick. It was somewhat shorter than his cane had been and thus a little awkward to use, but it still granted some much-needed relief after his trek all the way to the shack. Before long, he reached a door leading into the building. It wasn't the one through which he had first entered the field, but he didn't want to stay out there for much longer.

As he opened the door, he realized that unlike last night, just about everything seemed to go well for him this evening. Almost too well. An inexplicable feeling of inevitability came upon him, just as it had that fateful night fifteen years ago. Was he destined to meet -- and utterly destroy -- Edgeworth tonight? He had to quell this irrational feeling, however, lest he become overconfident and foolishly lower his defense. At a time like this, it was more important than ever to stay on guard.

Turning the flashlight back on and tightening his grip on the bat, he re-entered the dark building.

[And lo and behold, he happens upon the object of his own quest here!]
