It had been a simple enough choice to go along Wicker Street. It had a balance of fewer people than the one that ran perpendicular to the park, yet more than North Street, it's parallel entrance up ahead and utterly vacant. Near was aware that he couldn't avoid everyone if he wanted to adapt and succeed, but at the same time, he did need to give some nod to his preferences. Otherwise he could very well end up with a habit much worse than nail-biting.

The first store Near came to was of little interest. Dogs on display may see a great deal, but they couldn't communicate any of it, and that made them useless despite what an animal rights activist might think. Near only lingered a moment watching the puppies clamor over each other, then moved along down the street. He didn't like this sort of traveling, he decided. It was much better when someone like Commander Rester was with him.

The next store Near came to made him stop, however, even his asocial behaviors given lower consideration thanks to a single word in the sign. He wondered briefly if this was how Mello felt when he heard the sound of a wrapper being ripped away or Matt when he caught a whiff of nicotine, particularly in this place where their indulgences were utterly ignored. There were, logic dictated, better ways to be spending his time than drooling over things he had no means to buy or barter for.

But it was a toy store, and Near's ability to think went up by a significant percent when he was given such allowances. And there was a chance that if nothing else, they would have samples to be used. In reality, the chance was justified enough.
