The last tendrils of a headache were receding as Rukia awoke. Try as she might, she couldn't seem to remember if she had actually healed Rinali or not. Maybe she had passed out doing so, or maybe the night had just ended? More importantly, she needed to make sure that her katana was still around. Allen had been kind enough to find it the previous night, but Rukia had to check before leaving the room. Feeling around under the mattress, she discovered it in its usual location, and sat up just in time to hear the door opening.
As with the previous excursion to Doyleton, the nurse handed Rukia some modern clothes and a paper bag of food. Setting the bag aside, Rukia changed into the red and white striped shirt and tan slacks. They were a bit too tight for her liking (how was one supposed to climb a tree without tearing them?) but they weren't uncomfortable.
Following the flow of staff and patients outside, Rukia boarded one of the buses and sat at an empty seat. Maybe Renji would spot her.
