Day 34: Lunch

Yuffie bounced all the way through collecting her lunch, all the way to a good seat- one with a nice view of the whole cafeteria, which was something she'd been missing out on during the past day or so that she'd been stuck in the Institute- and hell, she even bounced into her seat.

A good mood? No, really?

Despite the occasional blip, talking to Sagara had been awesome. He was a fun guy; he wasn't a prude, didn't have a stick shoved so far up his ass it was poking out his eyeballs, and he'd actually had a conversation with her. One that hadn't revolved around doom, gloom or how much life sucked. If she could find other people like that and keep in touch with Sagara, maybe there was a little hope for this place.

After a quick gulp of pink lemonade, Yuffie settled to munching through her food and keeping an eye on the door.

[Waiting for Dean, I think? :x]

"You may be ordinary in one sense of the word, but..." He held up a finger. "You are sitting in what pretends to be a mental hosptial. You have no reason to believe anything I'm saying, and yet not once have I seen the thought of 'this guy must be crazy' cross your face. It's an interesting lack of reaction."

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Was I supposed to think that?" He jokingly called Tia crazy sometimes or a dope, but why did he believe this guy? "You don't sound as if you're lying," Tony ventured, though how he wasn't certain. "Do people usually say that?"

The first person he'd seen had said that this wasn't a real institution, but did that mean he should assume that no one here was crazy?

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"There are people here that are quite insane," he said. "Just not in the way this place makes them out to be. It might not be a real hospital, but that doesn't mean everyone here is as upstanding a character as you or Takaya here," he added, gesturing to his temple.

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"As long as they leave me alone, I don't care," Tony said. "Especially Takaya and you. You want me all mad at you. I won't do it." He nodded and looked away. "There must be other people here who aren't so strange as you."

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Takaya wanted you angry with him so you would leave him alone," the false Takaya said. "I don't care how you feel towards me, but Takaya is worried about you now. Since I've taken such an interest in you and all." With a shrug, he leaned back in his chair. Takaya's efforts were futile in the long run, and now he didn't even seem to want to come back out.

"The rest of the people here are just as strange, if not more so, than we are. But you'll find out soon enough on your own."

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can take care of myself," Tony said defensively. "He can keep his worry." He frowned though, since if anyone knew what the person using Takaya's voice could do it was Takaya.

He decided to change tactics. "What other activities are there here? During the day."

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
He allowed the chance in subject for now with a soft chuckle. "I don't pay much attention to the things that happen during the day," he said. "But there is a schedule on the board. If it follows the same pattern, tomorrow we get to go outside. Exciting, isn't it?"

His smiled vanished, leaving his face empty. "With luck we'll be allowed off the buses before nightfall this time."

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Buses? Where do we go?" But it was the last statement that seemed important. "Why is that? What happened at nightfall on the buses?"

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Into town. And what happens on the buses at night is the same thing that happens all over at night."

Now he smiled again. "Every kind, smiling staff member here shows their true nature and tries their hardest to kill you," he paused here, as thoug thinking. "Or eat you. Maybe in that order, but probably not."

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's not possible," Tony said. "People don't do that." He didn't think they did.

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe not where you come from little boy, but here, anything is possible." He chuckled again, the sound soft and cold. "Sounds like the tagline of some fairy story, doesn't it?"

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't believe in fairies either," Tony muttered. "It was Tia who did all the reading. These people, the ones herding us from place to place try to kill and eat us?" He shook his head. Being strange can lead one to believe any number of strange things, but this was too much.

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
With a shrug, 'Takaya' seemed to lose interest. "I don't really care what you believe in or believe. They are not doing it to kill or eat us. No one is sure exactly why we are all here, though there are some wonderful discussions going on about it being something for the military, the government, or something equally inane. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones that doesn't see anything their first night. Who knows?" He smiled.

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"If you don't care then why tell me stupid things," Tony retorted. Both aspects of Takaya's personality were exhausting. And he still felt like he'd not had any real sleep for more than a day. "This is stupid."

He was bright, but he'd reached the point where his brain just didn't want to take in anything new. He'd been deep into solving the problems of his own past and getting himself and his sister to safety when he'd been snatched here where there were new mysteries and dnagers. Tony was tired, plain and simple. "I can't think," he sighed.

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Then you've lost my interest," he said. "But I'm always listening."

Takaya went ridgid suddenly, eyes glancing around the room as though looking for signs of damage, then turned to Tony... and quickly looked away.

"Fuck."

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Tony folded arms on the table and rested his chin on the top of his hands. "Look who's back," he said wearily. "Busy head you have there, Takaya."

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
"You have no idea," Takaya grumbled. All traces of his previous mood had been erased by utter embarrassment. "Sorry about that. He's a dick, but...." Snorting, he shook his head. "No, he's just a dick."

Frowning, he turned to look at Tony. "Are you okay? Did he do anything?"

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
"He just tried to scare me. i don't know if he was lying or not." Tony sat up and shrugged. "He seemed to be all talk."

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Takaya shook his head. "He's not. Not usually." With a small shudder, he looked back over the cafeteria.

"Look, I'm sorry about all the shit I said before. I mean, I'm not sorry I said it, but I am sorry that I was being such an asshole about it." He frowned suddenly.

"I taste... lemons."

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
"You were in a mood." Tony shrugged again. He honestly was tired from all this. "He took some of my lemonade. It was rude, but are you okay?"

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Takaya scowled and glared at the table, embarrassed by his own behavior. "Fuck. Yeah, sorry. It ... doesn't happen too often. Only when I'm really on edge."

Taking a breath, he turned back to Tony. The harsh look that was the norm for him was back, but it was tempered with embarrassment and concern. "All bullshit aside, do you have any questions you actually want answered? I've been here ... a while. So I know a lot of what's going on."

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
"He was a little scary there at the end." Tony closed his eyes and tried to think of his questions. "Well, there were a few. Was he lying? About the nurses and staff, I mean. Do they really turn into monsters at night?"

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Takaya nodded. "Yeah, they do. The last time we went into town, everyone was trapped on the buses when the sun went down." He glanced over at a nurse and wondered if it was the same woman he'd lobbed a chair at before.

"Nobody really put it together before then, but watching it happen was pretty fucked up."

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Following his gaze, Tony shivered. "Oh-kay. It is more awful here than I thought." He rubbed his face, scratching his nose especially. "Ummm... is it really that dangerous at night alone? I'm pretty fast."

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Depends." Takaya thought about it. "Some people find that they are safer alone while others are safer in small groups." He shrugged. "If I'm out, I'm usually alone or with one other person." His tone was more amused than annoyed.

"Between my own dumbass self and him, people don't stick around for a second time. But I haven't had too many problems outside the usual shit."
