[Hughes!]

She'd been so set and determined to find Mom, the end of her second nightshift came as an even more abrupt disappointment, and waking up in her dull room only gave her time to ponder over the gravity of the situation. Three dead people she knew and loved, back and alive, and one for certain was changed in horrible ways... it was a lot to handle over the course of one day.

She'd looked around the room, found the toolkit stashed under her bed, found her notebook and flashlight beneath her pillow as if nothing had happened, and her shoulder bandaged neatly. Whoever had done it had certainly known what they were doing, and while that made her suspicious, it also gave her a glimmer of hope that there was somebody here who was kind and skilled enough to do it.

She searched franticly for Mom and Dad, supposing she had missed them among the other patients, but try as she did, the effort was fruitless.

Maybe they're in solitary confinement she thought. Perhaps their captors here didn't approve of having doctors around to help people, so they'd deranged them to cause harm instead. She'd have to be careful then, about how much she let on about her skills. Somebody had to carry on healing in this awful place.

She took a small breakfast and sat down, trying to calm herself with breath. While she was nervous, she couldn't forgo another meal. Her health was important too; she had to remember that.
