Nightshift 31: Activities Shed
[from here]
Once, twice, thrice... with a heavy grunt, Zoro managed to break through the locks. The room was dark but his flashlight was still on and he calmly surveyed the different items in the shed.
Casually perusing through the sports equipment, Zoro took his time in the dark. He observed a helmet curiously, tossing it up and down with one hand as if it were a ball. The wood and aluminum bats in the corner drew his attention and, with the helmet tucked under his arm, Zoro pulled one from the pile.
Flashlight clenched between his teeth, Zoro gave the bat an experimental swing. It was aluminum and seemed to work well if not for his strength overcompensating the momentum of the relatively light object. He drew out two more, tucking all three into the right side of his haramaki. It certainly didn't balance out and he hated having to resort to baseball bats for his defense, but the pirate internally conceded that nothing could be done about it for now. Nami herself had taken to using Usopp's clothing rod for a weapon.
After a final glance around the room revealed nothing more useful than what he already had, Zoro turned and left, still carrying the helmet with him. Maybe he'll give it to the cook. Lugging it around would be worth the laugh.

Reno swept the flashlight's beam over the shed. Sports equipment, mostly. He tilted his head, looking over at Signum.
"So, anything you're looking for specifically?" Maybe he could help her find it or something. Not that he was into being all helpful and shit, but at the moment, he was just looking for something to keep him occupied. If it made him seem like he was giving her a hand, well, that wouldn't hurt, either.

"You must come from a fine place to find all of this so tiresome," she commented as she gave the bats a few experimental swings. The beasts here were weak by her standards, true enough, but the situation gave one plenty to do. To wander around during the night just to keep oneself occupied... it sounded like he'd led an interesting life. That he seemed to have the opposite attitude towards it was for now besides the point.
Some further rooting through the protective gear produced a pair of batter's armguards, which she strapped on. They were only plastic, but combined with her remaining magic they'd make for a much sturdier defense that her coat. If only there'd been boots as well she could have completed her outfit.
Finding nothing else in the shed to be of interest, she turned to watch Reno.

He shrugged in return to her comment. "Everything gets tiresome after awhile. I mean, how long you been here? I've been stuck in this shithole for damn near two weeks. Place is about the size of a friggin' shopping mall at best and half the people here are as dull as that chick popping bubblegum by the cash register. Gets old fast, y'know?"
no subject
"And you don't know anyone from the other half?" she asked. Maybe he could just use someone to commiserate with. Kind of what she was doing right now... but she was pretty sure she fell into the 'dull' half of his equation, singleminded as she was.
no subject
"I dunno. A couple, I guess." Well, all right--maybe he could tick off two, exactly: Dean and Sasuke. That was pretty much it, aside from the ones who disappeared entirely on him. He supposed Wallace was fun to annoy, but like hell he'd admit that one out loud.
He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively at her. "But hey, who knows? You might just add to my list, yeah?"

She was an anachronism in her own time, an outsider to the society she'd pledged her life to defend, and frankly a little proud of it; making friends, especially outside the military establishment, was not something she did often or easily. That said, most of the people here were pretty weird and she didn't mind, in just this one thing, the idea of trying and failing.

Reno matched her smirk. "War stories, huh? I'm game. Go for it."
The shed wasn't the best place to share tales, maybe, but he wasn't picky about whether they stayed or went somewhere else. Besides, here was better than hanging in the middle of the field outside. That would just be asking for something to come along and make a chew toy out of the both of them.
no subject
Having him along... she wasn't sure she liked the idea, but if she was willing to go out with Hokuto she'd live with Reno. At least he wasn't a kid, and she got the sense he had at least a little more business being out during the night than she did. She was just going to have to get used to the idea of dragging civilians into fights.
"Do you want to come?"
no subject
"My schedule's free." Reno gave the shed's door a poke with his pipe to push it open, letting Signum go first. "Lead the way."

Huh... seemed like the place had already gotten picked over. Thankfully there was plenty to go around, and lots of wooden bats still left over to serve as raw materials for the bow. Xigbar grabbed a pair, then shifted through the rest of the equipment in search of the other thing he wanted. Namely, nylon thread from the soccer nets. Pretty strong stuff, and it would be better than cotton string.
Needless to say, the creaking walls and spider webs didn't do much to faze a Nobody. Though it did make him feel rather wistful. Maybe, just maybe, Jack Skellington would live up to his world. Halloween Town was sounding better and better all the time.

Slightly out of breath from running after the Second (but putting on a nice show of this not being the case), Luxord finally swept inside the shed alongside the elder Nobody and gave him as much as a glare as he did the sylph.
"Thank you so for leaving me behind. I appreciated it greatly," he said flatly as he picked up a small baseball between his thumb and middle finger.

For now, though, there was something much more important to talk about. "So... you and that thing. Known each other long? When's the wedding?"
no subject
and making himself vulnerable to a shouting of 'you gandered at my captain!', not having any of that. Actually, knowing II was upset about the ordeal almost made Luxord wish to... smile. A bit. More than a bit. A lot.He refrained, of course, but an air of smugness proceeded to flow about the Gambler afterwards. He continued to examine the insides of the shed, not quite understanding a few items. Why was there not a cricket bat here...?
no subject
"You gandered at my Captain, Ten? You, sir, you... you gandered!" He even added a bit of an English accent, just for the blonde's benefit. Oh, how that got his goat! Especially when Luxord's choice didn't even have a body!
no subject
Still, Luxord put on a show at Xigbar's chiding, drawing himself farther and farther back as the elder Nobody spoke, his eyes widened. In a motion resembling someone obviously not himself, the blond stared at II in worried confusion and responded with a shaky "I meant no harm, sir..."
...of course, the act didn't last long. The dead silence afterwards as he tried to look as frightened as possible proved too much, and he resigned himself to muffling his laughter with his right hand.
After seeing the gunner's feathers ruffled so because such a small and unimportant detail, Luxord merely could not take him seriously.
no subject
lolslaughter, anyway. His angry face faltered, and despite attempts to hold on to it, was soon cracked by a grin that grew broader and broader, until he finally burst out laughing as Luxord started chuckling.Only once he'd gotten his breath back did Xigbar grin again, much more light-not-hearted now. "Okay, I'll back off about that thing. Looks like you're not too comfy with it anyway. ...wanna start heading out, then?"
Of course, Xigbar wasn't going to elaborate on whether he was talking about the Captain or the faerie-cloud-thingie that was making X uncomfortable. Why be too open when he didn't have to?
no subject
"Nothing more of interest, then?" he questioned, hand motioning to the rest of items that lay in the shed. He supposed II wished to get his weapons as quickly as possible, but X merely wanted to make sure.
no subject
warm fuzziestopic was pretty much taken care of, Xigbar's attention was right back on the weapon he could get. Time was ticking; he had to get that bow before it ran out on him!So, to make sure Luxord didn't fall behind, Xigbar grabbed him by the wrist and physically dragged him out. Onward, for the sake of his toys!
