Day 31: Sun Room (Fourth Shift)

Though perhaps not entirely as successful as he wanted it to be, Homura walked away from lunch feeling satisfied with his efforts. Roland and Fai both had shown interest in the goal, and that was enough for the moment. Homura could be patient, had already been for five hundred years, and felt no harm in waiting another five hundred if he had to. He would have his goals realized, no matter what obstacles he faced, be they from the prison or those trapped within.

But now was time for business of a different sort, and the demi-god made his way to the Sun Room, near the common board. He made sure he could be seen from the entrance to the cafeteria, knowing that one stranger and one member of his own group both wanted to meet with him. It worked out well enough, especially given that the stated purpose of the History Club was simple.

Revenge and escape.

For now, Homura had no intention of revealing that it'd grown more complicated than that.

"S-sorry. I was... dreaming." Subaru forced a smile, though it wasn't very convincing, and brushed off the incident. "Probably about the monsters in this place." Riiight.

"Subaru!" Hokuto pulled back enough to put one hand on her hip and glare at him, but she still didn't entirely let go. "Do you really think I'm going to believe that?"

She couldn't stay mad, though--not now. Instead, she hugged him again; she was making sure she didn't hurt him, but he would have a very hard time of it if he tried to make her let go.

Subaru smiled faintly, sheepishly. But a little more genuinely. "No, I guess not. I was dreaming, though."

He squeaked a little when Hokuto hugged him again, and tried not to fall over. At least he was already leaning against the wall, from when he curled up to sleep.

For the moment, she just hugged him; she didn't explain, but then, she usually didn't.

"I saw Kakyou in a dream recently," she finally murmured. "A regular dream, but it was nice to feel like he was checking up on me." Maybe he would find her for real, sometime; it meant reaching across time and space, but the seemingly impossible coming to life was nothing all that new.

Even if forging a note from her brother to ask a favor of someone she remembered from a manga series she loved was a new one even for her. Well, one of her new friends here remembered them from a manga, so... ah, Landels.

"My dreams are the same as always, I think." Though the dream of sakura was always clearer now, than it had been when he was still under Seishirou's spell of forgetting. And the added element of Hokuto's death... well, that was a year old already, and familiar as the rest of it, by now.

"Mine haven't really changed," Hokuto said softly. Maybe her unconscious didn't want to let go, either; at least they made her smile. "Kakyou even told me at the end that my alarm clock was ringing." She'd jerked awake thinking she'd fallen asleep in class once, too. Apparently, some part of her life had to be normal... so to speak.

"I'm glad." Hokuto didn't deserve the kinds of dreams this place could create. Subaru was truly, truly glad that the horrors of the night hadn't changed Hokuto, not really. But then, though he hated to think it about Hokuto, the dead were less changeable than the living, really--they held on to who they had been in the days and hours and moments before they died. It would always be Subaru who changed, now.

Hokuto snuggled up, head on Subaru's shoulder, and just watched the room in general. "Have you been talking to many people here?" More than anything, she wanted him to attach to other people. Okay... so her last attempt at that hadn't gone well, but this time she just meant he should make some friends. He'd need people besides her.

For now, she was back in his life; of course she was going to resume meddling in it!

"I suppose, a little bit." This place did throw him together with other people a great deal more than he was used to, but he was still keeping his relationships with them very shallow, really. It was the way it had always been, in the end--he met people, he spoke with them, maybe he was able to help them, and then he moved on to the next meeting, the next person.
