"I don't think anyone wants to imagine what I'd do," Shadow smiled, soothed by Valyn's figures running through his hair. "Especially Val. He wouldn't survive the public shows of affection."

Shadow looked up at Valyn and his smile brightened. Maybe it was the strange euphoria pain brought on or maybe he was just glad to have Valyn next to him. He shifted over and sat up, kissing Valyn's cheek. "I'm grateful for Keman keeping you safe," he whispered. "Let's make this the last time we're in the clinic, though. I'm sure they're tired of seeing us here."
