A sleeping spell, as in magic? The thought hadn't even crossed ZEX's mind, given that magic had become outdated and largely forgotten in his time. While it could explain the numerous strange things that happened here, that seemed to have been the entire point of "magic" as he understood it... to explain things temporarily until factual, real evidence could be found.

But there still was the nagging fact that everyone, even these humans who ostensibly knew nothing about his species or the galaxy as he knew it, was speaking his language. No good thinking about it now. "I'm sure there have been opportunities during the day to discreetly inject those who misbehaved with a variety of chemicals... perhaps some designed to activate after a certain period of time has passed."
