Since her way of saying it had been a little more than strange, it was no wonder that the man didn't understand that Rhode only meant plain English. Not England English or any other kind of English. Just the regular English she was used to. Thus the double use of the word, emphasizing that there was only one kind of English in her world, both the physical world, and her own dream one.

He probably wasn't used to dealing with such a strange kind of logic as Rhode's where people were expected to get her meaning.

When he gave no indication of whether he understood or not, she didn't try to make him understand (which would have likely gone off on an even more confusing subject) and stuck with the religion subject. He'd just given a very interesting answer after all. "Humans are stupid to follow it and annoying because they do." That's why it was all right to kill them. So stupid and weak.
