Ryoko followed her nurse to the cafeteria, where a large crowd of humans were already starting their breakfast. The other patients of the institution, she assumed, curiously looking over a few bystanders, searching for even a vaguely familiar face while distractedly helping herself to the selection of muffins and cinnamon rolls, not even noticing what exactly she was putting on her tray. It didn't really matter. She'd never needed to eat before, as it was unnecessary for an artificial interface to ingest sustenance as humans did.

Only...she was as human now, wasn't she? As if on cue, Ryoko felt her stomach emit a disturbing growl, and was surprised to find herself feeling...hungry. She'd never felt hungry before. And for some reason her face was heating up, as well, with another emotion--embarrassment, that was it. Why was she feeling embarrassed? Organic gastric systems commonly underwent regular peristalsis that often produced odd sounds as a result, but why did the human body feel the need to feel ashamed of such an involuntary action?

Humans were disturbing.

"Ah, Miss Sharp," her nurse said brightly upon seeing Ryoko finish piling up her plate. "You're in luck, aren't you? I've just checked the roster--I didn't know you and Mr. Worthing used to go to the same high school. It's such a coincidence, isn't it?"

Who? Ryoko wanted to ask, but just smiled blandly in response. The woman beamed back at her and took her hand before walking briskly over to a more secluded corner, where a brown-haired boy was sitting alone. "It's a good thing, though, that Jack has been here for the past five days. You've already got a friend here, and he could show you around the area and everything--"

But Ryoko wasn't really listening at the moment. Her eyes had fixed on 'Jack'.

Kyon. Momentarily overcome with surprise, she was nevertheless quick to recover; her lips curled into a rather crooked smile as she set the tray down upon the table and sat down on the seat opposite her old classmate. She didn't even notice her nurse's departure.

"Fancy seeing you here, Kyon-kun."
