The blade struck true and the spider shrieked, bucking and flailing. Renji hung on to his sword; he wasn't losing that or letting it get broken. With one mighty lunge, the spider threw him off, sending him into the wall again. But that was it; it was in its death throes. Renji picked himself up, leaning against the wall, and watched it die.
His shoulder and arm still burning with poison, he headed back slowly the way he'd come. Daemon was over by the female block, and River would be over there as well. Either way, it was where he needed to be.
