Day 29: Sun Room

It was with some relief that Yuuhi awoke the next morning, in his own bed, sore and tired and achy.  He would've slept more had they let him, his face down in the pillow, away from all the others and their questions and their concern.  He didn't want to see them, but he managed a little smile when the nurse came in and didn't object when she lead him out into the open hallway that had been splattered with blood, plenty of it his, just last night.

The Chapel or the Sun Room?  He felt he had good reason not to be terribly religious and had a feeling he wouldn't be very welcome there anyway.  The Sun Room would be nice though.  It was bright and cheery and he could always doodle or write notes on the community board if he'd nothing better to do.  Besides, the nurse was kind enough to let him take a book with him.

He found a seat on one of the couches, far from the entrance and seated himself in the far corner, legs scrunched up against his chest so he only took up one of the cushions.  He opened up where he'd left off, fingers carefully turning the worn pages  of Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz.

"You make it sound as if I've done something horrible." Maybe it was because Wesker knew him a little too well...

Oh well. The doctor made a few more notes in his notebook, once again regretting having not thought to bring it with him the night before. The time wasted sulking over the mistake could have been used to make more progress. William shook his head.

"Do not avoid the question, William," Wesker did have a great deal of patience, but he did want to know what William was happy about already.

Why did he always have to be so difficult?

William chuckled, shaking his head once more. "Isn't someone testy this morning." The doctor grinned, momentarily tempted to continue playing ignorant. The other man was in an especially impatient mood, it would indeed be fun, but no. William decided against it in the end, Wesker would use this against him later.

"Fine," he conceded. "Though you've made it sound far greater than it really is. I only found a specimen."

Wesker knew that William could not have taken down anything on his own. 'Found' was likely the most accurate term. But that still did not tell Wesker what he wanted to know.

"What kind of specimen?" Surely Birkin wasn't keeping a corpse, or parts of a corpse, in his room.

"Human," William confirmed, voice bright. It was true he had only found it, but that did not matter because in the end he still had it. Though that still didn't mean William wouldn't have sulked if he knew just what Wesker was thinking.

A frown met what William had said, but Wesker wasn't going to press for answers about where William had found a human corpse. It really wasn't that surprising.

Instead he found his attention was drawn to Clark. "That boy over there is one of Claire's 'friends'. We should go see what is bothering him, don't you think, Doctor?" Wesker's use of the word 'doctor' was almost friendly teasing. Well, it was as close as Wesker got to 'friendly banter'.

For the most part, it was a warning to behave himself if he decided to tag along.
