Nightshift 27: Hallway Outside M81-M120 Block

[From here]

Scar stumbled into yet another empty hallway. The nurse had taken him into the right direction this morning, which had led to the sun room and all the other connecting rooms. He wondered what happened to be located in the opposite direction.

Continuing, the king eventually noticed the door at the end of the hall. Fiddling around with the handle, he managed to push it open and felt the cold breeze from outside on his skin.

The angry buzz from the creatures was almost palpable. How dare their prey fight back! They were supposed to be feasting now, not dodging a metal weapon! In their fury and haste to get back to their meal, they didn't see the flashlight come at them, turning all too late to avoid it. The aim hit true, crashing into the side of one dragonfly and fortunately for Kaoru that sent the insect careening into another, crumpling them both to the floor in an unmoving mass. The last three screeched and went for the twin, jaws gnashing to dig into his arms and neck in a last ditch attempt to kill what was supposed to be an easy meal.

Kaoru peeked up from under his non-attacking arm and took so long in smirking to himself that he wasn't prepared for the next wave of attacks.
He felt that paralyzing sensation again as it went for his neck. His limbs were going cold and tingly, barely able to move now.

Kaoru bit his lip and thought of his brother. He took a moment, trying to ignore the biting and suddenly swung his arm up, trying to knock them off, and then reached again for his neck. His finger brushed the small, deep hole there (the one in his flesh) and he almost wretched again.

With hot tears pouring down his cheek, he gathered every ounce of energy to hit out again.

The arm startled them and they took off again, the last three in their swarm, buzzing around Kaoru's head. The neck was tantalizing, the blood flowing freely now that they'd been able to rip into it. They couldn't let this opportunity pass. The smell of blood and vomit mixed in the air, sending their senses into overload. Without noticing the boy's attack, they flew at him again and another got caught, crushing the creature from the air. The other two, fed by anger and frustration, attacked relentlessly. Rather than staying in one spot, they landed and ripped the flesh apart, then flew off only to land somewhere else and attack anew. They went for the back, the legs, the arms, anywhere they could see exposed flesh or an unprotected area.

Kaoru shot up, now on his knees, trying to twist and turn and get these things away. He was getting as desperate at they were, abandoning all thoughts of a plan and reasonable aim. Every so often he stopped and swayed, while his vision went blurry. Then he'd make out a shape and aim for him, hitting out weakly, but with all the determination he could muster.

He was not going down here, bathed in his own vomit and blood and killed by bugs. That was too humiliating and, right now, only the thought of Hikaru and avoiding this stupid demise could keep him fighting.

The needle-like teeth sank in here and there, shredding skin as the creatures kept their hold even as they flew away. They wanted the boy to bleed and grow weaker, to lose the will to fight back. The two remaining ones began timing their attacks to when he lost his vision, swooping in for the arms before buzzing away when he swatted at them. They could feel success on the doorstep when one of Kaoru's errant swings struck home, clipping the largest dragonfly in the wings and sending it to the floor. The creature wasn't dead, but it wouldn't be flying anymore. Broken wings fluttered uselessly as the creature pulled its twisted body forward and sank its teeth into the boy's leg. The other whipped around to his back and landed there, unable to be patient any longer. It bit hard into his lower back, ripping the cloth away before setting the razor sharp teeth on gouging a hole through his skin.

Kaoru could his the air leaving his body again, unable to breathe in enough to keep him focused. But he automatically slammed his hand down to where the pain was in his leg.

Barely a second later and pain screamed through his back. He squirmed again and tried to get the creature and knock it away. He briefly considered slamming his face to the floor, but the thought of those teeth getting deeper put him off.

[identity profile] damned-monsters.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The creature exploded under Kaoru's palm sending blood and guts everywhere. It had been plump on the boy's blood and now its own mixed with its meal on the floor and in Kaoru's clothing. The wings crunched unpleasantly along with the fragile bone structure and the twisted, now crushed, body.

That left just one - the one on his back that refused to let go. Even as Kaoru batted at it, it wouldn't fly off this time. Instead, it dug its teeth in deeper, widening the wound it'd already made. It moved whenever the hands came for it, scrambling up to the middle back to avoid them and sliding back down when it was free from danger. Teeth rent the flesh and a hungry mouth drank the blood, chewing the muscle and reaching for more. It's hunger could never be satisfied so long as its prey was still alive.

Kaoru was close to giving up, he counld't carry on like this. Whenever he went for it, it moved. His energy was draining away along with consciousness. It didn't hurt so much anymore at least. He just felt like he would be sick again, the rest of him was too cold to care about the biting.

He was bored now. he was going to do something else.
Like sleep.

Kaoru closed his eyes and fell back, hitting the floor hard.

Success! Even if it was only in a minor degree. Although the dragonfly had succeeded in bringing down its prey, Kaoru's unexpected fall backward had startled it. The creature wasn't able to get away in time and the boy caught its hind quarters, effectively crushing its legs and damaging its wings. Even if it was dying, though, it was still going to eat. Crawling over to his exposed limbs, it bit into his arms, buzzing its wings every so often in primitive delight at the taste of fresh meat in its mouth.

[ooc: Bex and I just realized that Kaoru's in the wrong block entirely. So we're just going to say that this is the M41-M80 block hallway, in which case Hikaru's skipping the hallway outside his room. Sorry! We both fail. ;_;]

Something was wrong.

Hikaru couldn't escape the feeling of dread that dogged him as he left his room. Kaoru had been taking too long, and all he had gotten off the communicators was static, so he decided to look for his brother himself. What if something had happened to him?!

The feeling only got worse as he walked down the hallway and into the next one. Something was very, very wrong.

His worst fears came true when he realized that the crumpled, bloody figure blocking his path was his twin brother.

"Oh my God...KAORU!"

Hikaru ran to his brother's side. One of the giant bugs that had attacked Kaoru was still alive, still biting his arms. Hikaru lashed out it with his flashlight, panicking. "GET THE FUCK OFF HIM!"

Oh God...Oh God...

He cradled his twin in his arms and didn't even try to hide the tears that were starting to streak his cheeks. "Kaoru...Kaoru...c'mon, wake up."

Kaoru was walking up the drive to his house. But that was wrong, usually he and Hikaru drove to and from home. Ok. Now he was in a car. And there was a venus fly trap in a pot beside him. It was in Hikaru's seat because it was a gift for him. But it was biting Kaoru's arm.

That made him angry. But what made him angrier was Hikaru grabbing the plant and stomping all over it outside the house. That had been a gift! Kaoru could have screamed and cried and hit Hikaru for being so insensitive! Kaoru had just gotten out of hospital...

He was in the car again, but it rolled down a hill that had appeared beside the drive. Kaoru was tumbling and trying to hold onto something.

He didn't want to die yet!

"Stop it," he muttered, though it sounded more like 'stn mhre'.

Fine whatever. He was going back to sleep. He tried to curl up in the back seat of the car but it was so hard and cold and his body felt too heavy. There was some warmth there. It felt like summer but it was dark.

He had to go back to hospital, didn't he?
He opened his eyes, wanting to tell the driver to get control of the car. But instead he was looking at a dark hallway. Holding him was Hikaru. No. Not Hikaru. A fresh wave of dread swept over him, but it seemed to unfreeze his body momentarily. He clapped a hand over his mouth, muffling his own weak scream, and tried to get away from the Ghost. He hit out at it weakly, tears falling down his cheeks, eyes wild with fear.

[identity profile] totallytheseme.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Hikaru's relief at seeing his brother regain consciousness quickly disappered when Kaoru screamed and started to hit him. Kaoru's eyes were wide; he was terrified.

Terrified of him.

"Kaoru, it's me!" Hikaru's voice cracked. "It's me. St-stop, you're hurt. We need to get you to Tamaki's club thing. Kaoru...please." He was sobbing now. "Snap out of it. You're scaring me."

[identity profile] hangenki.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
Kaoru hesitated and, in his weak state, that was enough for his hands to fall away. He hadn't been able to hit the ghost. It hadn't spoken to him...

It was Hikaru. A fresh wave of tears flooded his eyes and he slowly, carefully and incredibly painfully, curled up into his brother. He wanted to tell Hikaru he loved him and he was sorry and he was scared and he really couldn't breathe but he didn't want to die. Instead, he just gave a small sob and closed his eyes.

The pain was fighting back through the numbness and he was biting back the return of the bile. He didn't want to throw up again. He wanted to be strong now, but all he could manage was trying not to cry.

"I... just wan' sleep. 'k?" he muttered, quietly. He didn't want anybody else to see him like this.

[identity profile] totallytheseme.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hikaru curled up with his brother, glad that Kaoru had finally recognized him and wasn't trying to push him away anymore. Only then did he notice that a lot of the blood was coming from his brother's throat. Hikaru tore off a piece of his shirt and held it to the wound, trying to slow the bleeding.

This wasn't good. This wasn't good at all.

"I know, Kaoru," he said softly, smoothing his twin's hair with his free hand. "But you can't sleep right now. It's dangerous here. We've got to get you somewhere safe. I know you don't want Tamaki to see you like this, but we haven't really got other options. Now, do you think you can walk?"

[identity profile] hangenki.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Kaoru had lost track of where he'd been bitten, he just knew he was drenched in all sorts of gross stuff that came from his body. He hated being left like this.

"I'll sleep it off and when I wake up, they'll have sorted it out," he said quietly. It made sense to him. Even if he died it was ok because he was with Hikaru. But... dammit. Hikaru was with HIM in the spooky corridor.

"Dammit," he whined, tears falling again. "I hate it when you're right."

He didn't want to be able to walk because that would mean feeling his body even more. But Hikaru couldn't carry him all the way. He tried to pull himself up against Hikaru, pausing as he heaved. He swallowed it back, but it returned for a surprise attack and he vomited all over his legs and...a bit of Hikaru too.

"Sorry...." His lips were trembling so bad the vibration almost hurt.

[identity profile] totallytheseme.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's kind of scary, when I'm right, huh?" Hikaru gave Kaoru a weak grin. He was helping his brother stand up when Kaoru bent over and decorated both of them with the contents of his stomach.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), this wasn't the first time Hikaru had been vomited on. There had been that time when they were eight and they both got the stomach flu...

"Hey, it's okay," he said gently. Hikaru adjusted his grip on his twin, trying to make it so that he was supporting most of Kaoru's weight. "Okay, we're going to start walking now. If you start feeling like you're going to throw up or pass out or anything, just tell me, and we'll stop. But need to get you out of here."
