Day 26: Cafeteria, Lunch

Scar felt cold and sick, though more the latter than the former. As he rose from his bed, he didn't quite know which way was up, and the artificial light coming from overhead seemed as hot and as blinding as the Ishbal sun.

His head hurt, but that was nothing new. After all, the last thing he remembered from the night before was fighting a homunculus off of Lust and then having a conversation about events best left forgotten. The man hadn't been his brother. He just hadn't. And if what Lust had said they'd done to her was true...

Scar stood with shakiness that he wanted to attribute more to a bizarrely weakened physical state than a mental one. Had he been knocked out by some kind of lurking monster before the morning had come? He felt as if he had been out for days, being a veteran of such circumstances, though as he took the practiced role of being an obedient follower behind the nurse and orderlies that came for him, it didn't seem as if much had changed.

This place was probably just playing tricks on him again, and he was tired of being the man left out of the loop. He grabbed some food he didn't really care for and sat down, not seeing anyone he knew already seated. On one hand, he wished he had someone to talk to, and on the other, it scared him that he was no longer used to being alone.

He dug his fork into his food and tried to block out any related thought.

Kyon realised that trying to eat the mass on his fork was just going to result in him turning his grey sweats into red sweats. He tried to shake a few of the noodles back onto his plate before trying again.

"I haven't seen a whole lot yet," he began, recalling the night before, "But I did see a guys arm torn up from one of those supposed monsters." He set his fork down. "Also appearently a few doctors took a girl and tortured her or something."

He stopped remembering the red-heared girls face. He could remember her name for the life of him, but, her face he could shake off. "She didnt look good last night, I hope she's doing okay."

[identity profile] repolarization.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Ginji's eyes darkened. "Yeah, my first night they took me." He shuddered openly. "It wasn't nice." In fact he had a feeling if he ever saw that doctor again he was going to snap.

"The monsters here are pretty mean too. I once saw a really big ... uh... I think it's called a 'scorpion'." He had a feeling that it was probably a monster that had hurt him too, but since he couldn't remember exactly what happened it was probably best not to bring it up.

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Kyon watched him, putting down his fork. He took note of the change in his eyes when he spoke, as he recalled the memory. He glanced down at the wheel chair that he was sitting in and after a momment, decided to ask, "Is ah...is that why you're...?"

He knew that the thing was probably a touchy subject but ...he really wanted to know what the hell he was up against in this god foresaken place.

[identity profile] repolarization.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ginji shrugged and then winced at the feeling it left in his stomach.

"I don't really remember what happened to me that made me like this. I woke up the next day before lunch and my body was like this." He frowned slightly. "The nurses said I did it to myself, but I don't think so."

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
"...."

That was all the response that came from Kyon. Slowly, as he described the ordeal (or lack of), Kyon's usually tired, apathetic eyes widened in horror. He didn't remember!? He just woke up one morning and he suddenly couldn't move his lower body!? Kyon's toes clinched tight in his slippers trying to picture what it was like not to be able to use his legs.

Realising he was staring, he averted his eyes and looked at his plate trying not to seem incredibly disturbed. "That ...sucks," was all he could manage out after that.

[identity profile] repolarization.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Ginji shrugged. "It's not that bad. I can walk and stuff... it just hurts." It hurt because chunks of his leg were missing. "So I think I just have to wait to heal and then I'll be okay." He grinned. "Don't worry about me. I'm still alive and I can still do things like eat!"

He took another bite of his pasta and chewed it happily.

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh ...so he wasn't completely paralyzed. That ...that was good. That meant he could heal. He brought his eyes back up to the guy and sighed quietly. No sense in freaking out. This place's whole intent seemed to be to slowly unravel the people in it. Like hell was he going to make it easy for them.

He nodded to him giving him a brief smile before realising something. He hadn't given his name to the guy yet.

"Ah, sorry, I haven't introduced myself yet. Call me Kyon, or, Jack Worthing according to the nurses. I really don't like either of them but Kyon is the lesser of the two evils." He said, speaking about his annoying nickname.

[identity profile] repolarization.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Kyon-kun, then!" Ginji said with a smile. "But why don't you like your own name?" His head tilted to the side with curiosity. He knew what it was like to dislike a title, as he had disliked the title given to him by his gang, but a name? Why go by a name if you didn't like it?

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, the 'kun' at the end of his name made him look at him funny. Girls have only called him that but, oh well, he decided that that wasn't so important anymore.

Oh, his name, "Ah, 'Kyon' is a nickname, and for some ungodly reason it's stuck and spread to everyone I know. It just makes it easier to introduce myself as 'Kyon' it saves a lot of trouble."

He shrugged and remembered how his sister had started the whole thing.

[identity profile] repolarization.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Then what name do you like to go by?" he asked, tilting his head again.

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
He wanted to know his real name? Wow, that was a switch. Everyone he knew just settled with calling him Kyon and didn't give his real name a second thought. "Um," he said before shrugging and telling him his real name.

"Though like I said, theres people here that already know me as 'Kyon' so, it's fine to just call me that." He said dismisivly.

[identity profile] repolarization.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ginji smiled and then nodded. "Alright, Kyon-kun." He ate a little more of his lunch. It was hard not to just devour it on the spot, but since he was trying to have a conversation with Kyon it would be rude. Besides, Ban wasn't there to come by and steal off his plate.

Thinking of his partner made Ginji feel extremely lonely, despite the fact that he was talking to a knew friend right at that moment.

"So, are there people from your home here too?" he asked. He knew that Kyon hadn't been there long enough to meet everyone, but people tended to pick out familiar faces. "I'm the only one from my home here, but I know it's not the same for everyone."

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
As Ginji went back to his plate, Kyon tried giving the pasta another shot. He looked at it for a second before taking the damned utensil known as a fork and began to chop up the noodles. Then he scooped them up and ate them with a little bit more ease. Eh, it was progress.

Looking up at the question he nodded before swallowing what he had in his mouth. "Yeah, theres one. Apperently she's been here a few days ...which didn't make sense because I swear I saw her yesterday, but ...time seems not to follow any kind of logical route here." He bit his fork lightly as he rambled.

He looked back at him after a moment and said, "It sucks that you're alone, but, someone told me that it would be better to not see as many of your friends here as possible," before giving him a small shrug. "Personally, I pray for the nurses that have to deal with the one I'm here with."

[identity profile] repolarization.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ginji had to think about that. He missed Ban, more than he could say, but would seeing him here made the situation any better? He would have his partner, but his partner would be here.

"Heh," he said with a small smile, thinking about that too much. "I bet if Ban-chan were here he would try to either kill the nurses or grope them."

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
He smiled a bit and took another bite of his pasta. "Actually, I think she might do the same." He paused considering his words, before correcting himself, "I mean the groping part. Not the killing part."

He actually wanted to ask Haruhi if she'd tried doing anything to the nurses since she'd been here. Though, a question like that would have probably warrented him a stiff 'idiot' and a penalty. God knows what she could do in this place.

[identity profile] repolarization.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Ginji chuckled. "Well most of them aren't my type," he joked. "At least not the older ones." He didn't seem to care that Kyon had just mentioned a woman groping another woman, in fact he seemed to have overlooked or not registered the wording at all.

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Kyon was only moderatly surprized that he didn't react to Haruhi groping other girls. He was so used to they erratic way she acted. Though, he probably thought Haruhi was some kind of perverted skirt chaser. It wasn't the case, she just had a way of appreciating other womens ascets.

"None of them are my type so long as they keep calling me Jack," he grumbled, "Do I look like a Jack?"

[identity profile] repolarization.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
"No, you do not look like a Jack." Ginji said after considering Kyon for a moment. "Do I look like a Greg?" he asked, with a small smile. "Or Gregory, but I think Greg is just the short version of Gregory..." Ginji pondered that for a moment. "At least I got to keep the 'G'," he added, though mostly to himself.

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Kyon looked at him and shook his head. "No, not really. Though I'm not much of an authority on western names." That was another thing he had thought was wierd. He was clearly not western, so why use such a fake name? The least they could have called him was something Japanese.

[identity profile] repolarization.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Me either," the blond said with a shrug. Then his expression got a little more serious. Ginji looked at Kyon for a moment. "So..." he said, frowning slightly. "As anyone told you about the visitors or the fact that this place can brainwash people." He didn't want to scare Kyon, but he wanted to make sure that his new friend was prepared for what they had here.

During Ginji's first night the doctors had taken him and performed experiments on him that had been horrific and scary. He didn't want other people to go through that, yet he knew from the intercom that they were. That the doctors behind this place loved to mess with people and to hurt them. Ginji knew that he had to do something about it, but he also couldn't help but feel useless with his injuries.

At least he could warn people, so that way they could be as prepared as possible.

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Visitors?" Kyon asked curiously. Set down his fork and looked at him. No, he hadn't heard much about any visitors from anyone. Who were they supposed to be?

The brainwashing was new, too. Though, he wasn't surprised. The place screamed brainwashing from what he'd seen so far. The nurses were a good example, they either weren't human or they were being made to act like they did. The fact that patients were being taken away to be experiemented on told him that brainwashing could easily be done here.

He shuddered at the thought of what they could have done to that red-haired girl he saw last night.

[identity profile] repolarization.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ginji put down his fork and looked at Kyon very seriously.

"Sometimes, this place steals people and makes them turn on us, even people that we think are our friends. And they can make you do it too, even if you don't want. Other times, they bring people that we knew before and they tell us that the story we get here during the day is true." He paused and looked extremely sad for a moment. "They brought my mother here."

For Ginji this was even worse because he had grown up wishing more than anything that he could meet her. Now, he finally had and had finally seen what she looked like and it had been in this place, with her brainwashed into thinking that he really was Gregory and that he belonged in this place. He had to get her back from them.

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, this was some interesting bits of information. The people he was with the night before hadn't said anything like that (though they were in a bit of a rush) and Haruhi either didn't know, or didn't care. The part about the visitors particularly disturbed him. They kidnapped people in his family to try and convince him he was really nuts?

"...What if they're fakes?" Kyon asked, trying not to appear as unsettled as he was.

[identity profile] repolarization.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ginji shrugged. "I guess that's possible. I just had a feeling like it was my mother, though, and the bad doctor guy made hints that they went through the same things we are going through now." He frowned at the thought. "Maybe that's why we're here."

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Kyon really didn't want to think about it anymore. He really didn't want to be here long enough for him to have to see his parents walk in here and tell him he was nuts; he was proud of himself for his lack of insanity since he started high school. It would be a kick in the face to get this far and hear it here.

He looked down at his plate and found it empty. Shifting and standing up he gave his new friend a wary look. "It was nice to meet you, Ginji-san." He really couldn't think of a good excuse to leave him with, but, he needed to think.

He gave him a small nod and stepped away from the table.
