Day 25: Intercom, Evening

The intercom clicked on with its usual jingle, the Head Doctor's voice carrying with a bit more authoritative ease than it had earlier.

"Good evening, patients, and I'm pleased to announce that we've finally finished organizing when our new batch of patients will be introduced, and unfortunately, it'll have to be tonight while you're all in bed. Truly sad, that, as I'm sure all of you are eager to see our new faces as soon as possible!

"In any case, the dinner that will be brought to you tonight will be herb-marinated pork roast with buttery corn-on-the-cob and fluffy mashed potatoes. Of course, we have our usual vegetarian salad available to those who request it, along with our regular assortment of drinks."

He paused and sighed. After all, it had been a long day.

"Oh, of course--Some of you may be unhappy to hear that Dr. Crane and Dr. Jiyani will no longer be serving us here at Landel's Institute. For those of you who were scheduled to have sessions with them, we'll be providing a substitute group therapy session in upcoming days. More details on that tomorrow.

"I believe that's all for now. Enjoy your dinner!"

The intercom clicked off.

[ As always, post to this entry with separate threads for each set of roommates. Thanks! ]

After the rather interesting lunch, Xemnas had requested to spend the remainder of the day in his room. If the Superior needed anything, it was some time to think about various matters. The Order, especially. But for tonight, he had decided to continue investigating the second floor. Hopefully, the little trip would yield more useful results than both the courtyard and the kitchen did last night.

After dinner was brought, the Nobody settled himself at the desk and began eating his meal.

Albel was shocked to discover he had actually fallen asleep. It was only after a certain wench woke him up and escorted him back to his room, he had realized that he actually had dozed off. At the positive side, no maggots had bothered him with their stupid chatter.

However, it meant that the nightshift was nearing soon, to which the Elicoorian was definitely looking forward to. Hopefully, the maggot he would fight tonight wasn't some disappointing weakling. After all, it had been a while since the captain had some sort of excitement.

After he had gathered his weapons, he plopped down on the chair and began eating his dinner.

Once his roommate arrived he could start getting work done. Rather than just stare impatiently at the door, Recluse started consolidating the encoded notes he had written out today, and began translating the promised notes for Haku into Japanese.

He was a little out of practice with the language, but he wasn't one who was prone to forget anything. He hardly looked at the page that he was writing out, eating his dinner with his free hand. When was that boy going to turn up? He had quite a lot of weapons to make tonight.

'Mr. Cullen' was not happy that the nurse was being so embarrassing about this whole thing. No, he couldn't walk in a really straight line. Yes, he was still slurring alll his sentences. But did she really have to almost yell all of this to the general population? He was stoned off of an unwanted pain medication overdose, not deaf!

The nurse sat him down in a chair, put a tray of food (Urgh! Not again!) in front of him, put a fork in one of his hands and a knife in the other, asked him if he needed any more help with all of this ("Exashperation: I can put this disgushting shtuff in my mouth without yer help, meatbag."), then, only then was he left alone.

He stared at the food, a little suspicious that it might be starring back.

Today has been kriffing awful.

Renji was already in the room when Hisoka had arrived; he'd spent the end of the shift there, just laying on the bed where the orderlies had dropped him. He'd only rolled over onto his side to face the wall; it made him look like he was asleep.

And he wanted to be asleep. He wanted to not be able to think any more, at all. And he wanted a shower, with water hot enough to scald the skin right off of him. And... a lot of other things. But mostly, to just not think and remember.

He'd made so many mistakes. And he'd been punished for them.

Tatsumi had excused himself after lunch, spending his time in a quiet corner of the sunroom undisturbed. It had given him a chance to catch up with his notes (there'd been more information revealed today than he had realized), and to think over everything that had happened, both at lunch, and with Tsuzuki.

He felt better, if somewhat subdued by the time the nurse escorted him back to the room he shared with Light. He respectfully kept to his own side, sitting down at the desk with his meal, going over his thoughts and his plans quietly to make use of the time he was alone.

By the time Rukia was brought to her room, she felt like her whole body was humming with tension. She had felt Renji lose consciousness twice, and that sense of something horribly wrong just wouldn't leave her. And then his incoherent messages on the bulletin board... What had happened??

Fists clenched, she stood in the middle of the small room for a few moments after the nurse closed and locked the door. She wanted to blast a hole in the wall right then and go find Renji. She couldn't shake the feeling that he needed her, and she wasn't there for him. It was silly, really, because he was more than capable of taking care of himself, but she just felt like she needed to be with him.

Turning sharply, Rukia went to her desk and sat. She quickly ate as much of the food as she could stomach - which wasn't very much - then began organizing her meager equipment for the night. She would be out the door the second the locks were disengaged.

Jack didn't know how he had managed to sleep through lunch and most of the afternoon, but it didn't bother him too much. He glanced around the sun room and realized he must have nodded off at some point. He HAD been up all night and by the sound of things, he'd be doing it again tonight. He glowered at the sling he still wore- if only his healing was still working, things would be going differently. Still, he could come up with a plan to get out of this hellhole yet.

The nurse led him back to his room without much protestation on the Fable's part. He was in the mood for food, no matter if it was institution cooking. Hell, the fact that it was PORK ROAST was enough to elicit some surprise as he sat at his new desk and eyed his dinner. "Tax dollars at work?" he mused to himself and picked up a fork.

Haku smiled and thanked his nurse, who smiled back. "Aren't you glad Chris," she said. "You get to eat dinner with your roommate tonight."

He laughed and nodded. "I'm so happy," he beamed. She bid him a good night and Haku sat down at his desk, ignoring the food in favor of his journal. He had to write down information for Zabuza-san as well as Recluse-sama.

He waited for Artemis to show up. Perhaps he might be interested in a trade?

From the minute he was dropped off at his room Hisoka could tell something was up. It had nothing to do with the tension that filled the room or the fact that Renji looked as if he could have had a much better day, even though his back was turned to him-- he had always been good with reading body language.

Alright, so maybe it did, but it didn't change the fact that the boy knew something strange was going on. His roommate was always the first one to get started on whatever and now he looked like a broken doll. A comparison the empath hated more than ever.

Without taking his eyes off his roommate, Hisoka took a small step further into the room.

"Hey..." What was going on?

Renji looked up slightly, just enough to confirm that it was Hisoka, and that Hisoka wasn't standing anywhere near him. "Hey." He waved vaguely toward the desks, where dinner was sitting, then turned back to the wall. In the brief moment his hand had been up, the new scabs across the palm had been visible; they were just starting to go tacky. "'m takin' a nap," he said. Hopefully Hisoka would take the hint and leave him alone.

Re: M42

[identity profile] somber-secret.livejournal.com 2007-07-13 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, Hisoka had gotten the hint alright, but being the stubborn 'brat' he was, he wasn't about to just back down just yet. The bastard had poked and prodded him (although not that much, so Hisoka would show mercy) about talking to others when he needed to get stuff off his chest. Was he about to ignore his own words now?

The brief sight of the nail marks in the palm of his hand only further convinced Hisoka that something had happened. Something beyond the usual fights that took place.

"Did you get into a fight?" He asked casually, keeping a sharp eye on his roommate's body language, waiting for something to give him away.

A fight would explain things, Renji supposed. And it wasn't a lie. It had been a fight, a fight he'd lost, and...

One shoulder slowly moved up, and down, in a shrug. "Yeah. Got sedated." Also not a lie. Just not in that order. The smell of food was starting to make him feel ill all over again. He told himself it was because of the drugs; those did bad things to his stomach. He hadn't felt right the last time he got sedated, either.

There was something being left out and, like with Tsuzuki, Hisoka couldn't figure out what. It was irritating beyond belief and Hisoka didn't even know why he bothered. He didn't care about what his roommate did during his free time, it wasn't his business.

"...Both the goddamn same," he muttered under his breath, stalking over to his desk where his his dinner waited.

Re: M42

[personal profile] norainu 2007-07-13 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hisoka's muttering aside, he didn't actually ask anything else, and that was just fine with Renji. He drew his knees a little toward his chest, laying more comfortably. Maybe he would be able to sleep. The doors would unlock soon, and then he would have things to do, things to think of. He had to figure out how to teach three raw kids, one of whom was injured. Maybe he'd have enough in him to try to heal Tamaki again, but he doubted it.

His hands hurt, as did his wrists. It probably didn't help that he was clenching his hands in time with his breathing.

Re: M42

[identity profile] somber-secret.livejournal.com 2007-07-13 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Hisoka ate his meal in silence, a dark glower on his face as his fought to keep his eyes from wandering over to the other side of the room. It wasn't his business, Tsuzuki was the one to jump into everything and try to comfort everyone without knowing the situation before knowing what the hell was even going on. So far, all he knew was that the guy went from down-to-business to screaming to sleeping in the Sun Room, which was interupted when orderlies--

He froze, choking on his bite as his mind made the connections. There was no way. Really. There was no way what he was thinking could have been even remotely true. Hisoka beat against his chest, coughing as tears welled up.

This place couldn't be that fucked up, he was hoping. And Hisoka rarely ever did that.

Again, Renji looked slowly over his shoulder at Hisoka. "You okay?" he asked. He gave Hisoka a tired, ghostly version of his normal smile. "Food was meant to be swallowed, not breathed."

Hisoka graced his oh-so-intelligent roommate with his usual 'fuck you' sign even as he took in the appearance of his face. That did nothing to help, it only convinced him even more of what happened. Or what could have possibly happened. Still coughing, the boy grabbed the glass of water nearby and took a large gulp.

It made sense. Doctor sessions were still going...

When Hisoka no longer seemed on the verge of death by choking, Renji once more turned to the wall, closing his eyes. Conversation with Hisoka was challenging on the best of days, like a verbal sword fight rather than a pleasant pastime. While it would've been a welcome distraction - a much needed, desperately needed one - he didn't have it in him right now.

Swallowing the rebellious bite of food, Hisoka placed the cup back into its place and sighed. So now what? ...Why the fuck was he even still thinking of this anyway? Didn't he have other things to deal with? (And whatever happened to 'none of his business'?) The boy sighed, pushing his dinner around his plate.

"You had therapy last shift."

Well there went 'none of his business'...

"Yeah,so?" Renji mumbled. His shoulders crept slowly up, tension making them tight.

Re: M42

[identity profile] somber-secret.livejournal.com 2007-07-13 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
So that was it. Something happened during therapy... There could be no other possibility, the red haired man was looking like he was about to snap with the tension. If anything, now was probably a good time to pull back from questioning and leave things as they were. But it was gnawing at him.

What were the chances that Tsuzuki and Renji could have the same doctors?

It was such a small probability... Hisoka wasn't sure if it was the hatred and urge for revenge taking over his logic, deciding that Muraki was behind every bad thing that had ever happened. The boy wrestled with himself. To ask, or not to ask?

"I still don’t understand why you’d want to be outside while you’re like that, Mr. Flynn." The nurse chided as she escorted Axel into the room, the redhead shrugging lightly at her words before flopping ungracefully on his bed. Unlike most regular people, the heat and humidity of the Greenhouse did him some good, feeling much more refreshed than he had been earlier that day. Never mind the fact that he’d been asleep until lunch, but that was something that could easily be looked over.

Axel listened intently to the Doctor’s words on the intercom while keeping an eye on the nurse whom set his plate of food on the desk with her usual smile, in which he returned with an exaggerated version of his own. Tossing his crutches to the foot of his bed, he watched the woman intently until she finally left the room before he tended to his food almost tenderly.

"We’ll be up to our elbows by next week if they keep admitting this many people." He murmured with a sigh, stuffing a spoonful of mashed potatoes into his mouth.

Midway through the silence, Renji realized that he was grinding his teeth. He made himself relax by force. Out of habit, he ran his fingers through his hair, only to encounter the nasty snarl that the... gag that had been tied on to him had left behind.

He sat up; he managed to keep that slow, because he really did feel tired. But as he began working his fingers through his hair, trying to get the knot out, there was a tremor to his hands and a jerkiness to the movement of his arms that made the motion frantic even if it was slow.

Re: M42

[identity profile] somber-secret.livejournal.com 2007-07-13 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The nagging, biting, just plain annoying feeling to ask finally won out as Hisoka watched his roommate. He was too frazzled, something Muraki was wonderful at doing to others. Things were adding up and as paranoid as it sounded to constantly blame the silverhaired doctor, Hisoka was now positive that it had something to do with him. So without further ado, the boy casually turned his eyes to his fork, watching Renji out of the corner of his eye.

"You had Muraki..."
