Day, 6 had decided, was much better than night. He had never made much of a distinction about such things before. He was used to a dark hazy sky where even the brightest daytime hours were murky and gray. Outside was dangerous and inside was safe, so what did it matter how dark the sky outside was? Yet in this place, day and night mattered quite a bit. Now he understood, and now he was prepared.
What he hadn't been prepared for, no matter how much he had tried to imagine it, was the crowd. There were so many people! All of them different and all of them alive. It was amazing! Between the people, the pleasant buzz of chatter, and the bright sunlight, he was truly overwhelmed.
