In the time it took Tsurugi to break into the janitor's closet, Lloyd had done the same with the door on the opposite wall. The thought crossed his mind that he might have just as easily picked the lock, but the loss of one pick already tonight made him wary to risk any more. This way worked well enough anyway. He should save the picks for a lock that couldn't be broken through.
As he peered inside the room, not yet stepping foot into it, his flashlight cast long, strange shadows that made it all too easy for his imagination to think might hide more menacing things. He warily scanned the room. It wasn't that large. "More boxes in mine," he finally answered, once he was reasonably sure there was nothing lurking there. "And more cabinets. I think it's safe." He glanced back at the other boy. "But maybe we should keep the doors open, just in case." So that they could hear if the other yelled for help.
